Treadmill Nirvana and other ramblings

Today we had our "5K Fun Run" at my gym. I came in second for the women! I'm shocked because I don't think of myself as a fast runner at all. Now I'm itching to find another race to run in. Maybe a 10K, then half marathon, then full marathon. Yippee :Pinkbounc

Congratulations Sunny!!!! That is fabulous - I wish I was more of a runner! I've just started to do sprints on the treadmill to give my self more of a push to where I want to be! Glad to see you are doing such a great job!

Hi everyone :)

The birthday party was nice. I ended up just doing family, but DS was thrilled to have everyone over and didn't ask once about friends. We ended up doing a "cook in" because it was too hot and muggy to be outdoors. I took DS to our town's D.A.R.E. festival at noon before people arrived and we were melting. I did roasted veggies on the grill and they were fantastic. I sprayed bell peppers, pineapple, potatoes, zucchini, cherry tomatoes and vadalia onions with PAM Olive oil and then sprinkled with basil and grilled them on skewers. Very yummy and low point. I also did FF hot dogs and boca burgers for those of us watching our weight. I did the crushed pineapple angel food cake for dessert (I got DS a mini "real" cake). For the whole cookout I only used 15 points. Last year I consumed close to 10,000 calories at DS's birthday because after everyone left I ate nearly the entire cake :guilty: TG this year is different!

We got the bike for DS. I took him out on Sunday to learn and he didn't catch on at all. He tries to push both feet at the same time! He never rode a trike, so it might take a while. He has sensory integration dysfunction and some things are a bit tricky for him. He just learned to pump on the swings this month.

Running has been tough. I keep trying to run outdoors but it is sooooooo hot and humid it hasn't been pleasant. The weather's supposed to break today :umbrella: Let's hope. But I've been averaging about 28 miles per week. I want to get up to 40 miles a week to be in shape for a marathon :Pinkbounc But its so time consuming. I was forced to go back to full time at work this month and I'm not liking it one bit!

Keep cool everyone :smooth:

Sunny

Hi Sunny!

It sounds like your son's birthday party was a huge success!! :teeth: Congratulations! :cool1:

Sunny... I am so proud of you! In your post, you said that you only used 15 points for the entire cookout this year vs. the 10,000 calories at last year's party. That is progress! I am so proud of you, Sunny! You have accomplished so much this past year. You are such an inspiration!

I hope the weather cools down so that you can run outside. It has been hot, humid, and muggy here too. :crazy2:

Have a great day and stay cool! :flower:

Glad the party went well. Learning on the bike will come. DS,5, still doesn't have one. I know what you mean about eating the whole cake after people leave, so great for the difference a year makes. GOOD FOR YOU!

ooooh guess what?????

I just registered for the 2006 WDW Marathon :Pinkbounc  :cool1: :moped:

I am so excited! I have no idea if I can pull off the trip, but I'm gonna train like its a done deal :)

Yesterday's run was great in the cold 50 deg rain! I was able to run 9 miles without stopping once for water, my time was 84 minutes. The weather makes a huge difference. Now I have a focus: I WILL run the 2006 WDW Marathon, finishing sub 4:30 at 148 lbs :) That's the plan :goodvibes

Sunny

OMG, I am so happy for you to register for the WDW Marathon! Wow! That would be so cool, but with a bum knee, it's never gonna happen for me... a 1/2 mile walk can be a killer some days, but I do it for the dog 3 times a day anyway! :)

Wow, I just caught up reading your journal too, you have been so busy! Glad to hear that DS had a great time on his Bday. Honestly, about the bike, each kid is so different! My DD didn't even want to learn until she was 9, can you believe it? She was already a black belt in karate and couldn't ride a bike! She used to tell us that if God wanted us to ride bike, he would have given us wheels! She's a hoot! This is the same kid who wanted to move to Canada because she thought in Canada you wouldn't have to get immunizations! As you can probably gather from these 2 statements, she keeps me on my toes! ;)

My DS was 7 when he finally mastered a 2 wheeler. He had a hard time because we used to have a dirt driveway and it was so bumpy! He would fall more than stay on! But he was a persistent little bugger! He still is!

Well, keep up the great work. You must be so proud of yourself! Great job! :sunny:

Happy Friday! :sunny:

Congrats on registering for the WDW marathon! Amazing. :cool1: I know you will do great. I am thinking of the half for 2007 at this point.
I bought DS, 5, a bike yesterday! We went to a friend's house in the morning and her son, 4, who is best buds with DS, was roaring around without training wheels on his, so on the way home, I picked one up at a bike shop where the guy sells used bikes! This morning when I went for my wog, he wanted to come along to ride his bike, but I don't think he is quite ready yet! Soon though! :sunny:

Hope you are having a good weekend. We are having alot of drizzly days up here, so probably you are too.

Keep on running girl! You must love the cooler weather for that! I don't mind the rain, but I'd like a bit of sunshine mixed in here and there too! It's been about 5 days solid of drizzle now and I'd love to be out by the pool today soaking up some rays instead of just puttering around the house. DDs ankle/foot is still bothering her so, we're laying low today and nothing drives me more crazy than that! :sunny: But it's for a good reason...

Happy Saturday! :flower:

Hi Sunny,

Congrats on signing up for the wdw marathon. I KNOW YOU WILL ACCOMPLISH THIS. You are doing an amazing job. So glad to hear that DS's bdy was nice. We usually have family bdays for Katie, and she loves it. We did a blowout for 5, and will do another when she hits double digits. In between, she can have 1 or 2 friends over. I can't afford huge parties every year.

DS will get the bike thing. Katie still hass some issues. She is still using her training wheels, and I don't have issues with it. It will come.

Sunny, are you eating your activity points? You may need to increase the calories slightly with all the training you are doing. I agree that you may have entered a starvation mode. Just something to think about.

Take care,
Beth

Congratulations Sunny! :cool1:

I am so excited for you that you signed up for the WDW marathon!!!!! You will do an AWESOME, WONDERFUL, SUPER-DUPER, AMAZING job! :cheer2:

Have a wonderful weekend! :flower:

Well marathon training is well on its way :goodvibes

I did a 16 mile run today :cool1: It was absolutely wonderful. At the end I know I could have made it another couple of miles. What a great feeling. When I did my 14 mile run I thought I would die if I had to take another step so this was very good for the psyche today!

I do eat my activity points but I'm wondering if I still need more food. Sometimes I know its true biological hunger I'm feeling and my WW journal says I've had all I'm allowed :( Today I earned 18 APs :Pinkbounc ANd I'm starving  I haven't eaten them yet, I don't know if I really should since tomorrow is WI. I'll play it by ear.

Yesterday was a blast. It was my rest day, but it was very active. DS and I headed out for some bike learning (he has improved quite a bit) and lots of playground hopping. We hit three parks. I brought my jump rope and did quite a bit of jumping inbetween helping him/playing with him. I also did the monkey bars until my arms nearly fell off! Its so fun to be able to hang an maneuver myself around witih my arms. Its been DECADES since I could do those things! We also did sprints on a soccer field. It is such a joy to run just for fun sometimes. DS is quite fast! He is now signed up for karate starting next Saturday and T-Ball and swimming lessons starting July 5th. DD got a job at a dentist office that will be M-F 10:30 - 6:00. I hope I hope I hope it works out. I've been so worried about her having too much free time over the summer (there's NO WAY she'd go to a camp).

I'm expecting a good loss at WI tomorrow. But I've been shocked before, so I'm trying to prepare myself just in case... Onward to goal!

Sunny

Hey Sunny - I swear, even in my BEST shape, I doubt I would be able to keep up with you. 16 miles is so amazing. There is a lady that attends my WW meeting who was training for a marathon that eats all her AP too. I can't see that you can get by without them. I don't use mine much, but I don't have the workout schedule you do.

Keep up the great workouts and don't starve yourself. Good luck at your weigh in tomorrow :shamrock:

Sounds like a great weekend you had. I'm forever in awe of your abilities--16 miles is a huge accomplishment!

I've always wanted to be able to do the monkey bars too! Someday...

Have a great Monday!

Hi Sunny!

You are amazing! 16 miles and you could have run more?!?! :earseek: Girl, think about how far you have come in the past year. I am so proud of you, Sunny! You are going to do great at the marathon! ::yes::

Have a wonderful day! :flower:

P.S. How did WI go?

So, how's the exercise goddess? Your runs sound amazing. You should be so proud of yourself! (and I bet you are!) Great job. I am so pleased for you that you signed up for the WDW Marathon, that is going to be so cool for you...

Sounds like DS is having fun with the so called "bike learning," isn't that a blast! DD has decided that she wants to learn to ride my unicycle. So, I have dug it out and am going to get the tires pumped up for her. This will be an adventure I'm sure! A great summer project though.

I so hope DD's job works out, it will be good for her to keep busy. These teen years are so hard. At 15 I was working in the local hospital on weekends during school and 5 days a week during the summer. It definately took the "fun" out of summer, but I was never bored and had trouble getting into trouble because I was tired on my days off. Smart move on my parents part, eh? Plus, I needed to save for college, it's never too early to start.

My 14yr DS is walking neighborhood dogs this summer. Plus, they won't be done with school until mid-July, so they won't have much "true" summer anyway. They only want 4 weeks or so anyway. DS hates the "break." He likes routine. DD will go along with whatever at this point. She likes taking a week off here and there instead of a 3 month break. Next year they may do 4 day school weeks and have long weekends instead, we did that in '03-'04 school year and it was great!

Well, just wanted to say "hi" and tell you how impressed I am with your running. You are doing so well...

Happy Friday! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

sunny--
wow , that 16 mile run is amazing!!!!!
im so proud! !i have missed you and will start visiting your journal alot again!

Hi everyone,

I feel like i've been gone for weeks! Actually its only been one week, but feels so long. Life is just too darn busy!

But I have wonderful, terrific news..........

I made GOAL  Well, I weighed 160.0 on my tanita scale this morning. I can't really claim it as goal until I WI at WW at 160.0 since 160.0 is my WW goal (personal goal is still 145). But I was soooooooo excited to see it! I get to claim my 80 lb clippie since I go by my tanita scale for clippies. (confusing I know  ).

I ran 14 miles this morning. I actually set my alarm for 5AM and was on the bike path just before 6AM. Never in my life would I have believed there'd come a day that I'd get up on a Saturday at 5Am to go running!!!!! :rotfl2:

I've signed up for a 10K on July 4th and a 5K on July 10th with friends. I can't wait :Pinkbounc

I will try to get to journals real soon, I miss you all sooooo much :grouphug:

Sunny

Sunny!!! That is AWESOME news!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Now will you go 6 weeks maintenance before you become Lifetime? I thought I would do 145 for my WW goal, but I'm afraid I won't lose the additional 10 pounds that I want if I set it too high. Let me know how maintenance goes.

I wish I had HALF your energy. I went for a 5 mile walk yesterday and thought THAT was good  Maybe one day I'll be able to do a 10 mile run ;) Have a great weekend :sunny:

Congrats on making goal!!!! You can be one of the success stories! :cool1: You are a real inspiration. :goodvibes
