Has anyone ever stayed the Travelodge in Kississmmee? My dear MIL decided our family needed to go to WDW this year and is paying for nearly our entire trip! Since this was such a last minute trip, we haven't had much time to save any extra for it. So, in trying to make the most of our money, I've looked for hours searching out the best price I can find. I've booked 6 nights for just $369! From the web site, the hotel looks nice enough. I know we won't spend all that much time there, and since we didn't go the on property route this time, I didn't want to put a lot of our money into the hotel.

There are several Travelodges in the area, i belive. Waht's the address? If it is 8600 W Irlo Bronson, you need to read the review a few threads down (title is Travelodge Hotel Maingate review ...". Doesn't sound too good to me  .

When are you going? How many is in your party and how many rooms do you need? If I were you, I would check either www.hotelkingdom.com or www.hotelmartusa.com . I think you might find a nicer place for about the the same money. If you give me some more details, I will see what I can find out for you.

Definitely read the threads straitlover mentioned.

I think I'd be looking for other hotel options either thru priceline or hotel kingdom. Try mousesavers.com for disney specials.

This is a different Travelodge. THANK GOODNESS!!!! :earseek: :earseek: I was getting scared! This one is the Maingate East, 5711 W. Irlo Bronson (up, or down, the road from the other one). It is rated as a 3 star. I hit the timing right on when I booked this hotel. I put in the same dates and now the price is $537!

I looked that one up in the Unofficial Guide to WDW, and they give it 2.5 stars/grade 64. However, if the grade had been 65, it would have been 3 stars - LOL!

I still think you might get a bette deal at Hotel kingdom. I don;t know your dates, but I checked tfor when I am going (10/4-10), and you could get the Clarion Maingate for $43.29 a night! It is ranked 3 stars/71 in the UG. Also, it looks like a lot of the Qality properties are running a 20% off special there, too. Saw some for around $39 per night.

Hope you enjoy your trip, wherever you stay!!!

If you are really set on staying at a Travelodge, you can keep your reservations. However, if you are just looking for a reasonably priced place to stay I would check some more.

I've also used Hotel Kingdom and been happy with their service.

If you don't mind being locked into dates, you should be able to use Priceline to get a 3* for between $30 - $40. Also, the Hilton has been going for around $60 - $65 and I believe this is rated either a 4 star or a resort category on Priceline.

I've never stayed at the Travelodge, so I can't give you any first hand experiences. However $62/night ($369/6 nights) seems high for a standard room in the Kissimmee area. If you don't care if you have a specific chain, you can also try Sidestep.com for good prices.

Thanks for all of the suggestions! We are locked into this price, without paying a cancellation fee, so I think I'll stay put. I can give a report on it when we return. This price does include tax as well as a microwave, refrigerator and VCR in the room. Not that we'll use the VCR much, if ANY. I'll keep all of the other sites to book through in mind next time!

I wish you had asked this question before you your made reservations :(. I stayed at this location back in July 2001. I would have told you to run screaming from this place. It was a pit. Depending on the cancelation fee, you still may want to cancel it. Yuck, yuck, yuck!

To put things in perspective Priceline rates this hotel as a 1*. For the same $60 per night using Priceline you could probably be in a Resort* hotel instead. For less than $30 you might get a 2.5* hotel like the Best Western LBV in Downtown Disney.

Here is my review:

I stayed at the 1* Travelodge Maingate East on 7/7 for $30 per night from Priceline.

Pluses

* The room itself was clean. The carpet was clean, the bed spread seemed to be almost new. The floors were clean, the vanity, toilet and tub were clean. There was a stain on the vanity, but it was of a permanent nature.
* There was a coffee maker with coffee (2 decafs!). 4 styrofoam coffee cups were included for a fast get-away.
* There was a "food court" with A&W Rootbeer and other cafeteria type food. We did not eat there.
* The staff was very friendly. There was no problem with the Priceline reservation and my credit card was not charged. There were no additional charges because we did not use the in-room safe or the telephone. There was no "resort fee".
* The pool looked clean. We did not use it.

Minuses

* We were on the 4th floor and the entire floor smelled skanky with a cover-up of the potpourri that is used in the "Everything's A Dollar" store. Except stronger. I assume that the smell was from the "cleaning" chemicals used, but I can't be sure. Other floors may be better, but I heard of other PL customers getting this same floor.
* Our room smelled musty. The smell was stronger when the noisy air conditioner ran. Honestly, I was somewhat afraid of Legionnaire's Disease from the darn thing since it was obviously not maintained well. Then again, maybe I was just being a little paranoid.
* The common areas outside the lobby area were worn and dirty.
* The walls, as expected, were thin and we could hear people coming back late from the parks.
* The door to the narrow balcony did not work.

Comments

It was not the worst hotel I've stayed in, but I'm glad I was only here for one night. I would have made more of an effort to have my room changed if I was there longer. The skanky "Dollar Store" smell and the mustiness were the only major drawbacks to our stay. The rest of the minuses I would have been able to overlook without a problem since the room was clean and the staff was friendly. The hotel was busy with kids (and parents) in town for baseball playoffs at Disney's Wide World of Sports, including a big group from Puerto Rico. There were also many people on holiday from Great Britain (I think it's a Virgin Holidays hotel). In all, there was quite an international flair to the place.

Although the room was very clean, it was probably the worst smelling hotel I have been in.

Okay, you all have convinced me! We've changed our hotel (even with the cancellation fee). We're now at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort.

I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but I've heard that the Sunspree is no great shakes either. You may want to start a new thread on that one.

Good luck finding a nice place!
