Travelocity...Rookie Question

Anybody ever use Travelocity or Expedia? What sort of prices did you get?

I'm looking formy honeymoon in late April/early May and Disney Unlimited can't give me prices until later when 2004 rates are released...

However, just to check I started comparing Travelocity packages and they are very competitive

Anyway, can anyone help out this rookie?

I've found that Travelocity's prices are bit higher than Expedia or Orbitz. The thing you have to be most careful about is that the better the deal the more likely you are to have to pay it all upfront. I also believe in many cases there is a $25 fee if you cancel the reservation. They're good on airlines and rental cars as well as non-WDW hotels. I haven't found them to ever beat a WDW room only code. You might also want to check Cheaptickets as well.

Putting it all on Plastic isn't that big of a deal, especially if it saves me a ton of money...

So, what I'm hearing that the reservations they offer are for real?

I also read some articles about a parternership between Disney and Travelocity, do you know if this is still the case?

hey spicedparrot -

i would actually recommend not doing a package because you can usually get a better deal if you book the pieces individually (of course the fairytale package that they are currently offering is an exception to this).

dh and i had a 3 week honeymoon at disney and we bought AP's (later upgraded to PAP's) and got a great AP rate at the beach club that saved us $$$$.

I don't mind paying the premium for the conveniance. My plan is to never need to worry about dinner and eat at whatever fine disney establishment I want...

My finance and I LOVE expensive dining and rarely are able to treat ourselves, and I'm sure we'll never do Disney like this again!

Anyway, next trip I'll do things separately...however, those travelocity deals are incredible, and I can get more luxury for less money...

I just want to make sure they are reputable. I usually use my parents who are travel agents, however, they really can't get rates any cheaper than Disney's rates on the packages, and even if they discount their commission it still doesn't save that much...

We've never used Travelocity for booking Disney, but we did use it for booking a trip to Atlantis resort (Paradise Island Bahamas). It turned out to be an AWESOME deal, so yes, I'd say that the Travelocity packages you're seeing are likely reliable. Maybe Travelocity is most beneficial for high-end type packages and that's why the Disney package looks so good to you? I can say with certainty that we couldn't have afforded to go to Atlantis if we'd booked the different parts of the package individually...we just couldn't beat Travelocity's price. We've never found a deal for Atlantis like that through them again, unfortunately...too bad, because we're dying to go back someday!!!

Travelocity, Expedia, Orbitz, Cheaptickets are all reputable companies. Most, if not all, are owned by major airlines and hotels. I've booked various vacation components through each one and have never had a problem or been misled (i.e. 5* hotel really 2*).

I used Travelocity for our March trip to WL and it worked GREAT. I would recommend doing it again in a heartbeat. I saved about $400 booking it through Travelocity versus paying the standard WDW rate. It was our first trip so I might not have known all of the different places to try for the best rates but it was better than AAA and Dreams Unlimited. We are not AP holders so I don't know how it compares to that but I was very pleased with the rate. Also, I only had to put down 1 night deposit and could cancel without penaly up until just a few days before the trip. It was really very flexible. When we checked in WL had everything ready for us just like it was supposed to be.

By the way when you are searching the Travelocity site for hotels go to the part for an Advanced search (or something like that) and you can put in the specific resort that you want a quote on. That way you don't have to wade through all of the Motel 6's to find the WDW resort you are interested in.
