Has anyone travelled to the United States within 90 days after getting Covid? One of my travelling companions in March just received a positive test. He was pretty sick but is now recovering. I see that he won't need to test before leaving and on the way back. Is it true that all he needs is his result and a doctor's note stating that he has recovered? Anyone had experience with this?

I was planning on using our switch health tests ( that I had purchased for our return trip home) as well as a doctor's note stating we /I are recovered. I am curious as well.

It looks like that is correct. There is an attestation you fill out on the CDC website.

Did you get your doctor's note?

Honestly, I don't think my GP would appreciate me asking for a letter for travel given the current circumstances. Does anyone know how we could get such a letter?

(We haven't caught COVID yet, but I'm wagering it will be anytime after the kids go back to school.)

Oops...I should fix that. I meant to say that if we test positive and catch it while this variant is going around. We haven't tested positive yet - yet. With our jobs being essential where we are out and about in public for hours everyday, I am sure it is just a matter of time. I just want to have everything in line so that we can travel late Feb.

I know people that just tested positive - with a trip in 12 days, so I can post back how it goes for them. They plan to get the letter a week from now (since isolation is now 5 days or when symptoms resolve)

To me, the real benefit of a COVID positive test is not so much getting into the US - you also need, as noted, a doctor's note - but being able to use that to return to Canada - which not only doesn't require a doctor's note, but is also good for 180 days.

To us, the test to travel to the States was never the hassle - easy to book, cheap antigen tests to fly, and nothing needed to drive. It's the testing while there that is a burden. Unless I'm reading this wrong, with proof of a COVID+ (PCR) test, for six whole months you can enter the States and come back without having to test. And for land crossings, no test needed either way.

I agree. I believe the reason you are allowed to show the positive test is because you may still test positive on a PCR for many weeks/months after infection. On an antigen you should test negative.

I am recovering from COVID and plan to use my positive test result to return to Canada, but will get an antigen test for flying to the USA as I don't think my GP would appreciate it as someone said above. Maybe I'll work up the courage to ask if I'm there for something else.

I did a rapid test last week and was negative so I don't have a concern about still testing positive on an antigen test.

A note for others in my situation - Be sure your PCR positive results have all the the correct information. In Manitoba the results we see online do not show the type of test, the name of the lab or the lab's address which are all required. I had to phone MB Health (3.5 hour wait) for a more accurate document.

I'm curious to hear how any Ontarians use their positive Covid tests to cross the border. When I logged into the provincial portal to access my results, my last name is blacked out, as is the majority of my health card number. So is it possible to get a copy of the document that has that information visible? I take it I would need that, plus a doctor's note?

Maybe you can call to get a more detailed report. This is what I did in Manitoba. I plan on travelling with my positive result. I look forward to not having the stress of testing.

My test results in Alberta do not show the kind of testing that was done. Is there a way to get the documents with the information on it that I need?
Also, I have my attestation, test results, and Dr. note. Is there any other documentation that I need to take? We have uploaded vaccine status' to ArriveCan and have QR codes for the flight.

If you click on the informational i - it shows the details of the test administered.

Interesting. Mine does not say that. It looks like it depends on what comments where inputted into the patient results.

One of the options to get results is to sign up for the My Chart application - the results are displayed in a usable format (at least it seems so).

Thanks for the tip, but it looks like my health network isn't part of that app. Too bad!

I called my doctors office and they were happy to print out a copy of our tests that include full names/name and address of lab that processed the tests/etc. They still don’t look all that official - I mean, I could easily duplicate one in Photoshop - but I assume that we are good now that we have them in hand.

How do you get proof of a positive test if you take a rapid test at home? Fellow Manitoban, so it is very hard to get a PCR these days here as they’re just distributing rapid tests and telling us to isolate at home. I feel like this is going to potentially cause So much trouble in The coming months when people are traveling.

We are traveling in March and two of our party tested positive today. But it was a rapid test because they couldn’t get a PCR.
