Travelling with previous positive tests

Can anyone provide details of what the steps were when travelling with previous positives? We have an appt with our family Dr to request letters of recovery and have the switch LAMP test results printed, but hoping to hear some first hand experiences of how it worked in regards to arrivaCan app/checking in to the flight and such. TIA!

You attest to having the documentation when you check in for your flight. You may or may not be asked to show when going to the US, for return I was asked to show the results when checking in my bag. I just showed it from my phone.

Thank you! We haven’t travelled anywhere yet during the pandemic, so the paperwork/app is stressful already, trying to be prepared for our March trip now that we have all tested positive this week.

It was a very easy process. We just showed our positive test results and doctors note when checking our bags at each airline, and that was the only time anyone asked to see it. It was not a big deal at all. Customs didn't ask to look at anything or ask us any questions about covid whatsoever. It was only the airline check in agent that verified them.

Thanks! We still have to figure out where to get a Dr’s note but it seems like there are some online places and possibly walk ins that will be easy enough. I’ll certainly take the stress of finding where to get that done over testing while on vacation!

We were able to get our family doctor to do it over the phone. We just made a phone appointment, told him we need a COVID travel recovery letter for travel to the states and he e-mailed them to us. Most of the services that do the travel pcr testing also offer doctors notes for a fee I believe.

Can the doctor write one note for the whole family, or does everyone have to have their own?

I'm not sure what the specific rules were, but we had a separate note for both my wife and myself. I imagine as long as it has both your names on it and dates you recovered it should be accepted though.

Can someone clarify? The "recovery letter" is only required if you are flying IN to the States, right? I have my proof of infection via PCR result from Christmas, but we are driving. So I think I only need that uploaded for my arrival BACK INTO Canada? And I believe I'm good for 180 days post infection whereas using it to fly IN to the USA is 90 days? All so confusing and complicated.

Correct. You only need the doctors note for flying into the states from Canada. The Canadian government does not require a doctors note on return. Just the PCR test (and soon to be rapid antigen test) results will suffice there.

And yes, Canada will allow you to use the positive results to return home for 180 days. The USA is 90 days though I don’t believe you need anything to cross at the land border (other than your vaccine records)
