Has anyone got any experience of travelling to WDW in the early stages of pregnancy?

How did you manage the flight and the trip?

TIA

I travelled in 2007 12 weeks pregnant and had no problems at all. That said I had had gotten over morning sickness. I was tired in the afternoons but that's when we take a break anyway! Hope this helps x

I flew to Vegas last year 12 weeks pregnant with twins 16 week when I came home. Also went to Florida during that trip. Flying was grand no problems at all with it I had inject myself with Heparin for 3 days before flying to stop blood clots as my doctor worried about me flying while pregnant with twins :). I just took it easy in the parks I was a little more tired but I was lucky I had no morning sickness.

My sister found out she was the day before we left. She was fine, only sat out the real bumpy rides, and still did everything else with us. She wasn't quote to the morning sickness point yet though.

Thank you for your replies. Our 2 existing kids are adopted so it will be my DW's first pregnancy. I'm planning ahead a little because we are not pregnant yet but I am convinced (maybe just a little too much optimism on my part :lmao:) that the pregnancy is going to fall in the lead up to our trip. I don't know why but I have a gut instinct about it.

From what I've read there are no huge risks with flying but I know that tiredness and sickness are very common in the first trimester so I thought I'd ask!

Fingers crossed for you:goodvibes

If things turn out as you hope, do take notice of the signs that advise not for expectant Moms - I always wondered why they couldn't ride some of those that I thought were gentler, but apparently it can be to do with the seating position etc too.:)

Sorry- don't mean to come across 'preaching' but I may have been tempted until I read about it.

Oh no, you're not preaching, I completely agree with you! She'd be all but on bed rest if I had my way! :rotfl2: She sits out some rides anyway because of a back problem that she has since our car accident but we've already agreed that if it does happen before we go, there will be no rides!

I can't help as I went the other end of my pregnancy 32/33 weeks and had a problem free easy pregnancy! However I did come home pregnant before that!

Some rides are safe but as its a first pregnancy I would be temped to leave it until your trip. Some of my friends have had awful morning (all day) sickness and I couldn't imagine walking round the parks like that. You also get tired very quickly.

If she does end up pregnant before you go just remember to drink lots on the plane as you get dehydrated really easily. Also wear flights socks even though they are ugly :rolleyes1

Good luck :goodvibes

never flew long distance when pregnant but we had a holiday to majorca booked early on in pregnancy and i was terribly ill the whole flight and most of the holiday . i remember been sat on the plane waiting to take off when you are not allowed to the loo and just been sick all over :scared::crazy2:

we had another holiday booked the following month and we just didnt go as i was still ill

tbh if you already have a holiday booked i would try not to concieve before going as you have no idea how your dw will feel , some people have no sickness or issues but others can find it a real struggle . i found been tierd made the sickness worse so would not fancy the prospect of a long haul flight /jet lag etc and the heat !!

i had a lot of sickness dizzyness and migranes in my 1st and 2nd but then nothing with the 3rd so its very unpredicatable how she will feel

I travelled with twins at 25 weeks pregnant, make sure your travel insurance covers you etc.

I had a letter from our consultant for extra leg room as i was high risk pregnancy and needed injections for the flight to stop clotting but virgin were great with all this :-)

Best two weeks of my pregnancy it was :-)

Thanks everyone!

The way things will "possibly" work out, DW would be anything from 10 - 14 weeks when we go, so our thoughts are that she may be beyond the first trimester and hopefully beyond the morning sickness stage (although I know some women have sickness throughout!) I think I'm more concerned about how draining it might be for my DW. Unfortunately, we don't really have the luxury of putting it off because we will be having some treatment to make it possible.

Because we've already booked 2014, we'll also be travelling with a 5 or 6 month old baby next year too which will be interesting! Might have to amend our booking to add a small person! :)

I had terrible sickness with both my DDs and had to be hospitalised more than once! My oldest DD just had her baby girl and was sick throughout the pregnacy up to and including labour ( thankfully it stopped for a while during delivery). She was admitted into hospital 5 times. There's no way I or her would have been able to go anywhere never mind WDW!

My first pregnancy I was fine in the second term but rough as hell first and last three months. WDW would have been out of the question. Second I was really rough the first twelve weeks then sailed through. You just can't tell.

I'd say this though ( and not to be a kill joy). If your wife needed a hospital for some reason during pregnancy, where would you like to be?

There are other holidays just for once maybe?

I live locally, so I went many times. I also went to Europe at 7 weeks pregnant. Take things slow, bring crackers(for nausea), and drink lots of fluids. Travel during the early stages of pregnancy is not usually a huge deal, as long as you feel ok and are healthy.

Personally, we'd prefer to be in FL! My DW is american and hates any form of medical treatment here in the UK!! :rotfl2:

If DW is too ill then obviously we'd cancel, but our trip has been fully booked and paid for and we wouldn't cancel it unless necessary. It's impossible to know if she will have morning sickness or not or whether she'd be over it by 14 weeks - I guess we'll just have to see what happens! :scared1:

I went in 1998 pregnant with my second child. We went at the end of February and he was born in October so I guess I was about 8 weeks. I had bad morning sickness but I went anyway I can be sick in WDW just as easily as at home. I was ok as long as I ate little and often but if I missed a snack or meal I was in trouble. We took it easy and had lots of stops but all in all it was fine.

Everyone is different and each pregnancy is different. My second was totally different to my first.

I still went to WDW during both pregnancies. Last time was last May when i was about 18 weeks and it was scorching hot. First time was around 15 weeks and late Nov so a lot cooler. And if shes more comfortable with US healthcare then i dont see it as a problem as you've already said how careful you'll be.

Unless she has alot of nausea then im sure she would be fine. Lots of water and lots of high energy snacks etc. Sure its harder but i still enjoyed my trips.

Your flying PE arent you? That was the only thing i struggled with in May - flying home in Economy with a toddler trying to sleep on me :)

Yes, we are flying P.E. so we'll have a little extra room. I don't know how you could fly in economy with a toddler on your lap! You deserve a medal!!!

My DW is sick A LOT so it really doesn't phase her that much. I sometimes think that she may be less sick than usual when she's pregnant :rotfl2: because so many things disagree with her stomach and she will be watching what she eats a lot more closely.

If we had to cancel, we would, we wouldn't put DW or a baby at any risk. My thought was if she is too tired, we relax more at the hotel pool, if she has morning sickness, we'll figure out how to reduce it as much as we can. I think the flight is the only potential problem but we do have P.E. and could possibly look into an upgrade if needed too.

Try economy with twins 23 months on lap and no others to help :-( no eating on that flight for us
