Travelling to St Pancras

I have looked into the journey times to St Pancras from home (Near Portsmouth) and it is proving quite difficult!!

I believe the Disney train will be leaviing at about 8.30am and just getting to St Pancras will be a nightmare as I will have to somehow get into London Waterloo and then go on an hour tube journey!!! Is this right as I have only been to London about twice and that was 10 years ago!!!

How does everyone else feel about the switch of stations?

could you not catch the train from ashford?

then you could bypass london altogether.

i imagine it would be similar travel times from portsmouth to ashford without the hassle of tubes etc.

tell me about it! lol! i need to get there for the 8.30 train but we booked to go on a sunday and live about 5 hrs from london - but trains dont start running until 8! lol! bit silly but we didnt think! we're booked on the national express now! x

That's exactly what i nearly did!! It was only when I looked at railtimes that I realised there weren't any trains on Sunday morning that would get there in time!!

I might go back to Plan A and just go to DLP by coach instead of Eurostar!!

I might look at the Ashford option first though.

I just looked into going from Ashford and that is worse. For some reason the train goes from Portsmouth to Waterloo and then onto Ashford!!!

I'm another one that isn't happy abut the move to St Pancras, but it might have made things a little easier if they hadn't changed the train times too, admittedly the extra two hours in Disneyland is nice I guess.

We are currently booked to travel from Ashford next Easter, but it's likely I will change it to St Pancras as I think DH can drop us off. I need to check but I think Good Friday and Easter Monday are both bank holidays, which presumably means there is no congestion charging?

I also need to find out how easy it's going to be for him to drop us off and pick us up.

Those travelling from up North say it's better for them, but I do wonder if it's going to mean they have to travel down the day before in order to catch the train, hotels in London don't come cheap either!

we go on the Eurostar on january 18th so we are driving up the night before and have booked a hotel £50 for the 4 of us and staying next to kings cross.

That's worth knowing Karen, which hotel and where did you book to get a price like that please? Is it close to St Pancras Station?

I'd be interested too in which hotel this is, if you don't mind. We're going in February and flying in to Stansted on Saturday and want to stay in a hotel (for 1 night) within walking distance of St Pancras so we can take the first eurostar to Paris on the Sunday. I'm having a real hard time finding a reasonably priced hotel especially as we need 2 rooms as there are five of us. Thanks in advance!!

hi weare travelling in december from edinburgh and unsure how close st pan is to kings cross and the time it would take, can we walk? as the eurostar leaves at 14.34 and we arrive at kingscross 13.35 been told there is 30 min check in 4 the eurostar?

I'm sure st pancras is just over the road from kings cross? (feel free to correct me if i'm wrong anyone!!!) I didnt know about there being a checkin time tho! i might just have not looked into it properly tho! x

Thats great if it is near and no underground required i was the same same about check in as last year when we went no one mentioned it but this year the lady from eurostar said we needed to be there at least 30 mins before boarding the euro?!

You do need to allow time for this ~ you'll need to go through security/passport control like at the airports and if they decide to search your bags you won't want to have cut it too fine.

i'm sure the coach gets us there 3 hours before we're due to leave so we'll be ok (thank goodness!) i honestly thought it would just be like getting any other train but thinking about it that was a bit silly! Lol!x

sorry only just getting on to the computer.
Right, we are staying at londons kings cross royal scot. its a travelodge.
they have a few parking spaces for cars (40) i think but dont quote me on that, otherwise there is a ncp round corner opens 24 hours a day.
it is walking distance to St Pancras (10 mins) and St pancras is next to Kings cross.
i booked through the travelodge website . hope this is of some help to people, there are also other hotels in the chain nearby.

Is that the closest one, or are any of the others closer. I'd be interested to now what the walk is like, I find London a scary place, and I tend to be travelling with just DD when we go to DLRP

i think it is the closest one, to be honest i just looked at the price then where it was and then booked it. as long as its got a bed and a lock on the door i dont care but then i do have my husband with me( not sure if that makes me feel safer or not )

Easter next year, though it's likely on that occasion that DH will drop us and pick us up, since I don't think congestion charging will be an issue, and it's bank holiday so he will be off work anyway.

I was really making notes for the future, when maybe he won't be able to.
