We are visiting WDW in Oct and it will be the first time with our two year old son. The flight is 8 hours (from the UK) with a five hour time difference. He has never been on a plane so we are rather anxious as to how it will go. He loves and needs his regular naps, however, he only sleeps in his cot in a darkened room. To be honest, i don't know how he will sleep not being in the cot as that situation has never come up. I have known only a handful of times him sleeping in the car and that has only been a cat nap on the way home to his proper nap. Thankfully there are 6 adults with him on this trip (us, grandparents, auntie and uncle) to take shifts in entertaining him, but 8 hours will be a long time with him.
Does anyone have any suggestions/advice/knowledge of how to cope with his sleeping arrangements, particularly as flying home will be a night flight? Does anyone have any great ideas for entertainment (8 hours worth)? I am open to all suggestions, however, art ideas are not great as they get eaten (however this situation may change by Oct, but not holding my breath), and portable DVD not great either as he currently does not watch any TV (currently sits through approx. 5 mins worth before getting bored).
My mum used to travel 16 hour flights, three times a year, for four years with two toddlers as we lived in malaysia and regularly visited family in England, but even she is anxious dealing with my son on this trip!
I would be really grateful for any advice or similar experiences particularly on the sleeping bit.
thanks
