I know that there was something on here a while back about the usability of TC. Its been 7 years since I've been to WDW :cloud9: and I am hoping to use TC in theme parks, like cash. Is this still the case? :confused3 I'm planning on splitting spending money 50/50 in $TC/cash.....

You should have no problem with TC's.
The rumours are started with travel agents(mainly Thomas Cook) trying to get customers to take their travel cashcard, there are many reports of them telling pure lies, they must be on commission for every one they get to sign up.

Only concern I would have is taking half in cash, your travel insurance usually only covers you for £100-200pp check your policy.

Sorry i don't mean to hijack your thread but i have a related question that doesn't really warrant a new thread!

Are those prepaid travel money card things (I'm not too sure what their called :confused3 ) widely accepted in Walt Disney World and the Malls and such?

Never used one myself, I only use a fee free credit card. As far as I know they accepted same as a credit card, there are either visa or mastercard versions.

I have been taking Travelers Cheques to WDW since 2008 and have never had a problem with them onsite. After the first purchase, I have the change from that cheque in cash :)

This ^^

Our policy covers us for £500 cash per adult and £250 cash per child under 18. That said, I wouldn't carry $1000 in cash on me - I just wouldn't. I take a mix of some cash, some TC's and I use a FairFX card for the rest. This year I am not bothering with the TC's because I like the FairFX and I will be using my fee free credit card for the most part as the exchange rate you get on that is better :thumbsup2

Yes, just make sure you have some photo ID with you. They work just like a debit or credit card in the UK except that the US does not (yet) use chip and pin so you sign for transactions over (is it still $50?) and anything below that, they just asked me for some photo ID and that's it :)

We used a Fairfx prepaid MasterCard the whole trip! It was just like using my debit card at home except there is no chip and pin just signatures. We used it to withdraw cash to pay for park entry until the Cm told us we could pay by card! I never have much cash at home and it was just the same in Florida! I just made sure I had cash when we were at the water parks so the boys could go and buy their own donuts every 5 mins! ;)

Thanks everyone :worship:

We'll take your advice re the cash and take the majority in TC. As we're staying onsite we're going to assign our credit card to our KTTW so actually we shouldn't need a lot of cash on us when we arrive and like the PP said we can just use the change we get in cash, when we pay with a TC, for other spending - exactly how I've used them in the past:thumbsup2

as your staying onsite you can always go to front desk and change TC`s there, they allow you to change up too $200 per day.
As your putting your CC on the KTTW card, would go to front desk 2 days before check out and ask for balance, use any TC`s left to pay off as they only charge CC the night before check out, saves unwanted cash(then again we always keep our $ for next trip)
Also be careful how many cards you have signd up to CC as sometimes the kids ones are linked unless you tell them not to have them, have seen many irate Americans, complaining there kids running up large arcade bill without them knowing
