Travellers cheques

Apologies if this has been posted before...

Reading the thread about CC companies, and letting them know you're going on holls to avoid them putting a stop on your card, got me thinking.

I always used to take some Dollars, and some Dollar Traveller's Cheques as well as the CC. Most things I could charge to my KTTW, then pay on check out with my CC, but cash is good for some small things, tipping, and toll roads. I also used to be able to use Traveller's Cheques just like cash... pay for something as if it was a note, and you'd get change (after signing it of course).

Is this still possible in WDW? Or in this modern age of electronic bank transfers and CC's and internet, has the Traveller's Cheque virtually disappeared?

Not used TC's myself for years now but yes they are still accepted just about anywhere as cash. Only 2 places I know about, Golden Corrall they have totally stopped accepting them and some people have posted issues at Walmart(can't remember exact problem) apart from that I don't know of any other problems with them. Suprised as I thought they would be an expensive item to process. I know I have stopped accepting regular cheques now where possible, cost is crazy.

So does everyone just rely on taking cash with them, and using your CC? We'll be in Disney for 90% of our time, so I guess using the KTTW and then CC at check out time would be ideal...

I haven't used cash or TC's for last 3 trips now, only cash I have used is for tolls, about $15-20 over the 3 trips. Used credit card for everything, its so much easier.
For our trip next week I have changed £500 into cash as I don't fancy using credit card in ports on the cruise. I changed it last week and only got $1.58/£1, I keep looking at the exchange rate thinking how bad it is to get cash compared with fee free credit card, over $1.65 with our Post Office card today.

We use cash (small amount we take with us) and TC.....never had a problem anywhere in the US with TC use them same as cash .....we also take CC but rarely use them....only for emergencies and the more expensive unplanned purchases (decided to buy IPODs when we were there last etc.)

Prefer TC - hope they neve do become obsolete...

TCs for us. I don't like the idea of those pre-paid cards (for a few reasons) and I like how you can as mentioned basically use TCs as cash.

I'm the opposite - I use the pre-paid cards because I don't like travellers cheques!

Im using Travellers cheqs at the moment and not had any problem with them.

In NY Wallmart accepted my TC no problems.

The only issue weve had is we've had to explain how our driving licenses work - ie which was the date and drivers numbers, but not once have our cheques been turned down.

We like to take some travellers cheques too which we always use for our table service meals at WDW and use the change we get for tipping/ice-creams/drinks/small spends etc. We use fee free credit cards for counter service, shopping and all other spends.

I just picked up some Travellers cheques the other day for our trip next month. The bank said not many people use them anymore, but I like to have them as a back up. We used them two years ago and had no problems.
