Traveling with Teens (Boy/Girl)

What do other people do when they travel with teens of the opposite ***? Most rooms are 2 double beds with rules against roll-aways due to fire exit issues. We have found it easiest to get rooms near Disney (more hotels with bunks), but what do people do in other areas? It isn't exactly cost effective to always book 2 rooms.

I have a son and a daughter who are 6 years apart. When we travel, we stay in one room because I'm not paying for two rooms. Sometimes we get a 'suite' that has a sofa bed, but when we don't, one of kids will sometimes sleep on the floor in a sleeping bag. If not, I sleep with my daughter and my husband sleeps with our son.

When we traveled and I was a kid I would sleep with my mom and my brother slept with my dad.

There's 5 of us and we have always tried to stay at the Hampton as they will supply a folding bed (actually quite comfy!). Dh and ds in one queen, dd and me in the other, younger dd in the folding bed.

In the "real world" we book suites. Nothing fancy, but places like Embassy Suites where we have two beds in the bedroom and a sofabed in the living area. In places where that isn't practical, we bring an air mattress for DS. The only place we've done two rooms is WDW, because as a family of 5 with the "odd" child (2 girls/1 boy) being WAY too big for the pull-downs in the sleeps-five moderates that's really the most cost-effective option.

If we are driving we bring a twin air mattress with us. If we fly we try to book a room with 2 doubles and a sofa bed. Dh doesn't like to sleep with DS15. They are just too big for one bed so that doesn't work for us. Neither of my kids like the air mattress but its either that or we don't travel. Definitely cannot book 2 rooms, that takes such a large chunk of money out of the vacation budget that could be spent on better things- excursions, tickets, fun stuff.
