Hi, I am traveling with my sister and dd, me and my sister have the same surname however my dd has a different name to us, are we likely to encounter any problems at the Airport in Orlando?

In July when traveling back from Paris with my sister and dd I was asked for evidence that she was my child and the check in clerk called a manager to check our passports and tickets before we were allowed to check in, as this happened in Europe I am worried that traveling to the USA would be worse, so I am hoping what we encountered was a one off.

Though in this day and age I would of thought that they would be plenty of parents traveling with children who have a different surname.

I dont know, I would double check with your airline - I wouldnt imagine it is a problem.

we have just returned, from orlando.we had our grandaughter & niece with us,both have different surnames, than us.we had no problems at all.
the only time,it was queried was, going through transit, back to manchester,at heathrow.we were asked, what relation, the children were to us.
no problems,at all,
tracy

I've been to Disney 3 times now, just my son (aged 9) and myself. He has his Dad's surname. On top of that we don't even look similar, I'm dark haired and brown eyed, he's really blonde and blue eyes.
No one has ever asked us about our relationship, let alone asked for evidence that we are related.

They may ask you some questions but I can't see how they could do anything as drastic as not letting you into the US. I'm sure you'll be fine :)

Took DH's niece (diff surname) to WDW this summer and Orlando immigration said nothing even tho' we went to the desk as a family and they went thro' our passports with a fine toothcomb... :thumbsup2

I've never changed my name to DH's so I have a different surname to our girls and I have travelled with them on many ocassions on my own and never been questioned

we travel with my 2 sons from my 1st marriage who have their dads surname and 2 sons with my surname - never been a problem, however on the plane i was asked to fill out the "family" name card for both surnames. When we got to us customs the bloke tore the one up and changed the number of people travelling on the other card!! I took their birth certificates with us and didnt need them once.

Hi

Take a full birth cert just in case ;)

Hi, thank you for your responses, seems like what we encounted was a one off, so we should be fine.

My dad had problems in Feb when he took my Neice to WDW she has a different name to my dad and when he got pulled up the guard asked connie if my dad was her grandad and she said NO!!! :rotfl: after lots of questions a phone call to my sister they were let on there way!!! :moped: needless to say, next time proof will be taken!!!

They only ask because they do not want anyone abducting children and taking them to other countries (criminal behaviour) so the more preparation you can do before you fly the better.
