And there is absolutely no need for a letter having permission to have her with you. That statement I don't understand at all? Why?

Probably no absolute need....but.....just in case for identification purposes, whenever I traveled with teens under 18 I always had a permission letter, even if we were just going for few hours in a car overnight. Better safe in writing just in case something happened....most kids had ID's, but a permission letter stating pertinent info was good if identification was needed quickly.

This happened 20 years ago, before the age of cell phones.
My inlaws took our eldest daughter to WDW and South Florida. While in Fort Myers, DD developed a high fever, and my inlaws took her to the emergency room. Even though we supplied my inlaws with a letter of medical necessity, the hospital refused to accept it. We never thought of getting it notorized. We had to send a telegram to the hospital, allowing them to treat our DD.

That said, we just returned from a Thanksgiving trip with our DGD (without her parents). Should have gotten the notarized statement. However, we are in the age of cell phones....
