We're leaving end of Jan. from New Hampshire. We can go I95 straight down, or take easier route and skirt NY and NJ. Any suggestions from people...which would be the better way to go?
Do most campgrounds in SC have pull in sites...we do not want to unhook the car for one nite. Appreciate any comments. Also, we were told not to plan on camping in Northern Virginia the first night as it may be too cold. Now we'll have to look for a motel with adequate parking for RV and tow.New Hampshire Please we need SUGGESTIONS Thanks

Biggest problem with 95 is the DC Beltway, especially the Eastern loop of 495, which is what you would be taking. This side of the beltway takes the most traffic from the North going South (and the other way around on your return trip). I once towed a trailer on it during DC rush hour   - never again! Timing is critical, and we try to hit the Beltway before 6 am on a Saturday or Sunday - the earlier the better.

We usually stay at the KOA in Florence SC. It is a common stopover for many of us who pull down to WDW. It is mostly pull thrus, and caters a lot to those of us who are just pulling in for the night and off early the next morning. Nothing spectacular, but clean showers and rest rooms and good enough for a quick electric hook up. There are many other campgrounds and I am sure others can tell you about them.

Drive safely and defensively!

We also stayed at KOA in Florence SC. We have a slide-on truck camper so we could fit anywhere but there were alot of pull-thu sites and it was a clean quiet place. We would/will stay there again. BTW, it is about 800 miles from Beantown.
Enjoy

We pull 30ft 5th wheel and have stayed at Red Roof Inns before http://www.redroof.com/reservations/inn_details.asp?innNumber=086 , try Carmel Church in Ruther Glen, VA . I stayed in Richmond before but they had a small parking lot. I remember seeing the one in Ruther Glen from highway and parking lot looked much bigger. I will stay there on way home,it is close to half way home. The Campground I have stayed at Savannah South KOA in Georgia http://www.koa.com/where/ga/10128.htm. They have pull through sites and nice restrooms and RV wash. It is 300 miles to FW from Savannah . We will be leaving NH on Feb 6th for 3 weeks af FW. If you are leaving on a weekday to avoid heavy traffic in citys take rt. 84 in NY to 81 in Pa then rt.. 17 to Fredericksburg Va.. It is about 70 miles longer , there are more mountians, but no tolls.

Thanks for travel info. It looks like we may avoid NY and Nj.....BUT, we just have a concern for the mountains. This will be the end of Jan, and we do not want to get into a storm in the mountains. I tripped it out on "streets and trips"--84 , etc is 2 hours shorter than 95 all the way. Does that seem correct? I appreciate everyone's help. This is our first time of many trips to Orlando from NH, I hope.
