We are thankful that we are getting to make some wonderful memories with our two daughters. Their birthdays always remind me how fast they are growing up. We have been blessed this year and I hope that our blessings will continue. I am also thankful to be on a boat with all of you!

Sorry to post this here, it has nothing to do with the cruise.

We are buying a digital camera for MIL for christmas. She still has her 35mm film camera from 1984 and its just time to move on. She is technologically chalanged. Any advice for a very simple digital? The software it comes with is most likely the trick. SHe just needs to be able to hit a few comands and the pictures show up on the computer. I was looking at the Canon a590 is.

Any advice is appreciated.

For everyone else who doesn't know this story, the other day I was talking about the trip (nothing new about that) when I mentioned GC. Mark looked at me and said "We're going to GC? Since when?" At first I thought he was kidding, but he wasn't. I told him that if I had known he was that clueless about our ports of call, I wouldn't have said anything and watched his surprise when we arrived there on the 27th. We've talked about GC and he ACTED like he was listening. Judy has talked to him about it too. Makes me wonder what else he's tuned out.

We are very thankful that my father (age 85) is doing very well after having a heart valve replaced and double bypass heart surgery this summer. In fact, he will be flying to Las Vegas next weekend to see an Air Show featuring the Thunderbirds!!

A few years ago, while on the Disney Magic, we received word that my father was in intensive care, on a ventillator, after suffering from double viral pneumonia and a heart attack. The prognosis was not promising. He had been on a different cruise line right before Thanksgiving and there was a horrible Norwalk virus problem. In fact, 2 people on the cruise passed away.

He was hospitalized Thanksgiving day, but we did not receive the news until Friday evening. As you can imagine, I wanted to get to my dad as soon as possible!! Since we were close to the coast, I was able to speak to my sisters most of friday evening via cell phone. DCL was very kind and made sure we were off the Magic first as soon as it cleared customs saturday morning. They even arranged for a porter to meet us right at the door of the Magic.

Thankfully, my father recovered after a very long ordeal.

Thanks for the advice. I am pretty much a tecnogeek myself but since I was buying for somebody else that is on the opposite end of the spectrum, I am unsure. I just dont want to get her something that scares her away. It sounds like the Canon is the way to go.

Ok, Chuck, since you seem to be the resident bringing drinks on board expert (is that why Ice is in your name?), can you use that fake ice in the soft side cooler? Cause then it may help the cooler in the room actually keep things cool. I absolutely hate Coke and am trying to find a way to bring my supply of Diet Pepsi's with me.

Anyone have a recommendation of a rolling soft side cooler? The ones I've seen at Target are all the hard version.

We just bought a new one at Sams for around $20. My dad accidently threw our last one overboard off the varanda (thanks dad).

Condensation creates water...Disney apparently does not want stuff that may drip...bottom line...if you want to bring beverages, take them in a soft-sided cooler w/out ice of any type or form...once on the boat, go to deck 9 aft and load ice to your heart's content from the drink station to cool them off.

Going back to the issue of bringing beverages onboard, if you want to bring them, you should carry them on like we do in a softsided cooler. If you try to ship or check beverages, they likely will not make it to your stateroom.

Great advice.....wouldn't want someone else going home with your beverage of choice.

I don't know what in the world got in to me yesterday! I ended up making homemade chicken and noodles and brownies and had my best friend and in-laws over for supper last night too. I hope I keep this energy burst that I've suddenly gotten! I'm not drinking anything though because I'm saving that for the cruise.

Hey, does anyone know where I can find the latest Navigators (preferably PDF).

I would try to find someone from the Oct. 25 (Halloween) Cruise. It was one of the (I think there were a total of three) with the itinerary we have.

Unfortunately, family members had to withdraw from our trip. But we're still going to have a great time!

I am so sorry that you had family that had to cancel.

I would not play w/bringing any form of ice onboard...when you get to security, I have had no problems with the cooler, but they repeatedly ask to make sure there is no ice..even some of that fake stuff causes condensation.

What am I thankful for? Well, the recent surge of energy I experienced was nice, but I'm really thankful that Brianna's surgery was much less minor than they had expected and that she is pretty much back to normal with the teenager attitude and all. I'm thankful for my family, friends, and health. I'm also thankful that we get to go on this cruise and realize that there are many out there who are not nearly as fortunate, so I am thankful every day that Brian and I are able to do this for our children.

I just have to say I never thought of the fact you can go upto Deck 9 and fill whatever you want with as much ice as you want.

Our stateroom host has always kept our rolling cooler stocked with ice. When we did our last 7 night, the stateroom host came by and introduced himself while we were unpacking our luggage. He immediately loaded our cooler with ice and kept it full each time we left it in the room. You gotta love DCL for their service!

I expected to get out my snorkel gear and pack a few more things today. That didn't happen. Tomorrow, the kids are off for conference day. Unfortunately we'll be clothes shopping for DS. He tried on a bunch of shorts and dress pants and very few things fit. If nothing else, we need to get him pants. It will not be a fun day shopping with both of them.

November starts the month of no school for my Ds. I think he will be in school for a total of 10 1/2 days this month. He has 4 vacation days, 1 conf day, 3 half days for parent teacher conf and 3 unexcused days. He's excited as only a second grader can be.

Well I will be in the hard core volleyball games on CC, but being perpetually tan is another advatage Floridians have, not b/c we actually go to the beach (we don't) but mainly b/c we can dress in shorts and shortsleeves virtually all year on the weekends etc.

All God's gifts great and small. So I'll just name a few.....

A husband who still loves me after 25 years and a bit of the over 40 flab.
Two great kids (even though they're in their teen years )
Parents who are still healthy.

I'm perpetually white. You'll all see me coming. In fact, my poor DS got my skin tone and doesn't tan well either. We both have that light hair, fair skin combination that unfortunately is dangerous when you put us in too much sun. Thank goodness for sunblock! My DH and DD are opposite--they both have that olive colored skin that tans so easily. They are very lucky!

Chuck--I'm guessing you'll get to know both of my kids if you're hanging out on the basketball court on the ship and on the volleyball court at CC. They both happen to be my kids' favorite sports. DS is pretty certain that he's playing for KU someday. You can always dream, right? Seriously, he attends the KU camps and has attended Danny Manning's camp for many years. This year Danny Manning didn't do his camp, so we sent him to Wayne Simien's camp. It was good--but the Danny Manning camp is AWESOME!
