Traveling Turkeys Part 2 11/22/08

My guess is upper 70's or so Ken...in other words, it will be chilly for us Floridians and warm for everyone else...it is the same every time. GC and Cozumel should still be fully tropical - we have been in the water in both this time of year and it was fine (even for the Floridians)...

Chuck:cool1:

Last cruise was a Thanksgiving cruise and the water at CC was very comfortable - even for this Northerner!

Shay - I went back and read his entire essay. He only quoted Plato, the rest was about how music has made him a better person and he would be "nothing" without it! It is definitely going on a t-shirt. I think I'm going to make it for DH and give it to him for his birthday on the 16th. He's very sensitive and a sucker for stuff like that!
Susan - I pull that WDW and DCL video viewing stunt here too. They hate it! I put a copy of the Navigators from the 10/6 cruise in the bathroom. Tim has been reading them and every once in a while he'll mention something. But they are both so sick of hearing me talk they run when I mention cruise! They'll get more and more excited as we get closer.

We're suppose to be going to a costume party tonight but it's getting so late I guess we both changed our minds and never discussed it. I don't feel like going out any more.

Cool! (Excuse the pun), I was not sure if I should pack a bathing suit, but it sure sounds like it, at least for when we get to Mexico.

I checked the 10 day forecast for the places we'll be visiting last night (I know--you guys think I don't do anything but obsess about my FE gifts and this cruise, right?:lmao: ), and for the next ten days, the temps varied from about 78-84 degrees. I think that sounds perfect! Of course, I know it could change a little, but it doesn't look to me like the temps really vary that much for the places we're going. I was more worried about the water temp at CC, but it sounds like if we're lucky, it'll be just fine.:thumbsup2 We cruised for spring break in 07, and the water at CC was so cold that I literally couldn't even stand to even put my feet in it. I'm kind of wimpy, but it was freezing!

I'm glad to hear that other people make their families watch the planning DVD's when they are getting ready for a trip to the world or the cruise. I'll share this info with my family so they know there are others out there just like me.:rotfl:

You were thinking about NOT packing a bathing suit at all?

Not even for Margaritaville?

Again this one depends on geography - for those of us who live in Florida and are accustomed to bathwater like swimming with water temps around 86 degrees, CC will be chilly...for those from the rest of the country where swimming water is cooler, CC will be great. But bring a swim suit even if to just lie out on the beach.

Chuck:cool1:

Good Morning All!!:cool1:
Everyone turn their clocks back? I was up at my usual 5:30am but this morning it was 4:30am. Daylight savings always throws me into a bit of a confused state!
Chuck, just to clarify - We northerners appreciate warm water also. Our summer temps are in the 80's and 90's and the water temp is very warm as well. We also have pool heaters up here that maintain a comfortable temperature. However, most of the swimming I do is in an indoor pool at the gym and spa. When I stated that the water at CC during the November I visited was warm, I meant just that. It was warm. When I was younger and pollution was not the issue it now is, we would sometimes swim in the Allegheny River. That, my good man, is cold water. It is not a temperature that you get used to, nor one that I prefer.:cold:

19 days until sail-a-way and 20 until we test the water at CC!:beach:

Michelle - How was your party?

Good morning everyone!! We changed our clocks, but that didn't prevent Mason from waking up at 7:00 am old time which is now 6:00am. :surfweb:

Chuck and I are both former Northerners who have chosen to live in Florida. I am from Chicago and used to spend summers going into Lake Michigan. We both have gotten used to Florida temperatures and feel like it's cold when the temperature falls below the 70s.

We are fortunate that this will be our 5th November in a row visiting CC. The beach in CC is our favorite beach and we definitely recommend wearing a swim suit. However, the water this time of year takes some time getting used to. It most likely, will not feel warm getting into the water. Some years it has been soooo chilly that I cannot go in beyond my feet. We were lucky to be in CC in July this year while travelling on the Wonder. Then, the water felt like bath water and I loved it!!! :thumbsup2

No way, that pun just popped into my head and that was the only thing else to say I could think of! Trust me, I wont be wearing much other than shorts, bathing suits, and flip-flops for most of the cruise (pirate night excluded of course).

Susan,

THANkS!!!, I never thought about checking the 10 day forecasts. Its scary, we are almost within that 10 days!!!!!

Ken

Our party was lots of fun. Our group accept for my husband (Chuck and Lisa know the man is very serious and never dresses up in more than a Pirate T-shirt for Pirate night so there was no way he was dressing like a fool) won for funniest costume. And my husband used his atheletic skills to win the husband/wife witch ring toss.

Michelle-

Also, Chuck just bought Mason the HSM3 soundtrack today!! :thumbsup2 We still haven't seen the movie yet.

Lisa

Jessica got the CD the day it came out. I have to say it is pretty good. She listens to it nonstop and mom knows all the words Go see the movie it is pretty good.

Lisa is that your way of saying you are a member of the Polar Bear Lcub. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: (for those that do not know it is a groupd that jumps into Lake Michigan after the ice thaws....not sure if they do it anymore but it was a big thing when I lived in the Chigacoland area)

And Chuck what is this 86-degrees you speak of? I cry if my solar heater isn't keeping it at 90-deg :lovestruc However, last year our Solar Heater Broke and we did not realize it until the pool was 120-degrees.....that was a bit much and it took a few days to get it down.

I say obsess over FE and planning DVD's if it makes you happy and passes the days away. So watch away I say!!!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that read water temps in the high 70's and went :scared1: ! We went in May in 2007 and froze our booties off. Though apparently, it was only cold to those of us used to the tropical water temps. I doubt I'll spend much time in the water until we get to the pool at Margaritaville.

Good morning everyone! I love this time change (atleast on the morning of;) ). No big plans for us today. DH is combining, so the kids and I are just hanging out at home. They'll probably be outside most of the day because it's going to be in the mid 70's again today. I'm going to try to make myself work on a paper that's due for one of my grad classes right before we leave for our trip. It's so hard to make yourself work on something when it's not due yet. I'm one of those that works best under pressure.:confused3

I started laying a few things out to pack. Nothing major--just some pirate wear that I know we won't wear before the cruise. I wish I had a spare bedroom so I could just start laying stuff out and getting organized. Unfortuanately, I don't, so I'll probably be packing the night before.;)

I'm hoping the water at CC is warmer than it was for our spring break cruise so I can atleast get in and get a glimpse of the underwater Minnie. My DD loves to snorkel at CC. She likes to go all the way out and she says that she and my DH see much bigger fish out there. I just take their word for it.:rotfl:

Susan

Morning all!

The kids were up at 7:15 this morning and I wasn't very happy. I think I'll take a nap soon. Michelle, absolutely, anything you can find out about photopass and carrying on liquids... I'd love to hear. That's good to know about the changes they've made. I'd hate to get there with a case of water, expect it to be delivered to the room and end up carrying it for a few hours. Guess I need to go and find my little collapsible cooler. Do you have pictures from your party? I'd love to see your Redneck costumes. Sounds like a lot of fun!

I think I must be a Floridian at heart. Seventy degree water doesn't sound that great to me; I like it about 88. However, as a northerner, that is technically toasty. That is a good 20 degree increase from what we're used to in Maine. In July, the Atlantic (York ME) is in the 50's. People swim in it but I don't know how. I stand in it for a couple minutes. They when I lose feeling in my feet, I head back up to the beach to thaw out.

We watched Samantha Browns cruise show when she was on the Freedom, yesterday (on DVR). She did a visit to Dolphin Discovery at Coz, so I wanted the kids to see what we'd be doing. They got really excited, and asked a lot of questions. They are counting down the days now, right along with me.

I also was talking to my cousin, who spent some time in Grand Cayman recently. She said she had the best pina colada ever at Margaritaville. I guess the highlight for her was that the straw was filled with rum too. Made me rethink not getting off the ship in GC.

Shell

Shell - that Pina Colada does sound amazing! Rum in the straw? That beats a shot on top any day.

Michelle - by any chance are your friends from "Poke" county? ;) Though there are many stereotypical redneck towns in the area, Lakeland is what first comes to mind in your area.

I am currently printing out door magnets as I get ready to go see "Phantom of the Opera." I love that play!

You must come to Margaritaville on GC!! We're all going to be there! Check out the website and wear your bathing suit:woohoo:

Sorry to post this here, it has nothing to do with the cruise.

We are buying a digital camera for MIL for christmas. She still has her 35mm film camera from 1984 and its just time to move on. She is technologically chalanged. Any advice for a very simple digital? The software it comes with is most likely the trick. SHe just needs to be able to hit a few comands and the pictures show up on the computer. I was looking at the Canon a590 is.

Any advice is appreciated.

I wish I could help you out but I, like your MIL also have and use my 35 mm cameras from 1975!! A Nikon and a Leica. I do have an underwater Canon 35mm that is from 1999! In fact I just bought film for the trip yesterday! My DH has a digital Canon something and a Samsung. They are both very simple to operate. Don't know about the lens, etc. As far as putting them on the computer - I'm at a loss. Good Luck!

Ken,

My MIL wanted a new camera for her birthday, and we all decided to go with the Kodak Easy Share because it's so easy to use. The software is simple too. I have had three of them and currently have a sony that I LOVE! We tend to go back to our good old Kodak quite often though. We have a printing dock that we bought with it, and sometimes it's so nice to be able to take a picture and just print it instantly. We've used it more than we thought we would. BTW, my MIL is technologically challenged as well, and she's doing just fine with her new camera.:goodvibes

After researching Consumer Reports, Lisa just bought a Canon powershot SD 1100IS 8MP Digital Camera w/3X optical Image Stabilized Zoom on Amazon for less than $200.

As to GC, forget the name of the place - it is a second story restaurant about a block or two left of where we get off the tender overlooking the harbor that reminds me of Friday's but w/much better drinks and great conch fritters....we have been to GC 3x and been to this restaurant for lunch each time. I will see if I can look up the name.....also decent shopping in GC.
