Ok I am ready to get the heck out of here. My DH just got in a major car accident this morning. He is fine but the car is totaled. It's our only car and even though witnesses say he was hit fist the police say he is at fault.

So we are trying to find out how and what to do. We don't have much in finances as he just went back to work and we are so behind on everything. My car isn't even paid off. Waiting for the insurance people to call us back. So I need to get rid of my stress, but may have less spending money now.
Your insurance company will take care of it. If the other person sues you then your ins. company will appoint a lawyer for you. I don't think it will come to that, but I've heard of people claiming injuries after the fact. You know soft tissue injury, lumbar pain and straing or whatever because they can make a quick buck off of it. In the long run we all pay for this stuff.

I'm very sorry for the accident. I've had a post-Disney trip accident. My car was totaled and so was the other guy's. He was really cool about it which totally floored me. My insurance claim rep said he was very complimentary of how I handled myself. It was totally my fault and no questions about it.
Your car will be paid out on ACV unless you have GAP insurance. You may be upside down on this deal. I'm hoping your loan is close to your ACV value.

I would check NADA and KBB values. They won't be exact since insurance companies use wholesale value. This will at least give you somewhat of an idea what your payment will be so you can make arrangements for any amount left over on the current auto loan. I got a nicer ACV payment on my car because I had the paper work where I took it for a major tune up and put on brand spanking new Michelin tires...Michelins. UGGHH! Not to mention a full tank of gas and the car was 100% mine - mine, mine, mine - not the banks.

But I won't re-hash that nightmare.
The only other thing is that you mention you are behind on bills because loss of employment. I don't mean to be so judgemental, but cruising is a luxury item. This money could've come in real handy for your family right now. Could you have moved it to another sailing date to help free up some of your finances until you moved back on your feet?
Travel insurance could've reimbursed you for the non-refundable portions like airfare. I feel for you. I really do.

So many are losing jobs and things are rough in the economy. We all want to escape this reality. I just can't see spending money on a vacation if we can't make ends meet. I don't know your situation. I'm trying very hard not to jump to conclusions or make it unpleasant. I could've read your post wrong, too.

I'm just saying. If you have the travel insurance you might want to consider using it and re-book your cruise.
