Traveling to London! Questions!

Hello!!

I am traveling to London for 3 nights in September. Does anyone have any recommendations on hotels? I'd love to stay in the heart of London near all of the sights, but don't really want to pay over $200 a night but also want to stay somewhere semi nice. I will be walking to all tourist attractions so would like something centrally located.

Any suggestions?

We've been to London a couple of times and each time stayed at The Radisson Edwardian Grafton which is on Tottenham Court Road. It's around a 15 minute walk to Oxford Street (the main shopping street of London) and it's easy to get to and from other attractions. It's a beautiful hotel and the breakfasts they serve are fantastic! I had a quick look before and it's coming in around £115.00 per night, which converts to $178.00 when I looked quickly before.

We did use the bus a little when going into the center of London, to the likes of Buckingham Palace and down to the Thames etc.

I'm sure others will give more suggestions too, but just thought I'd get you started

Depends upon your definition of nice, but I stayed in the Earls Court Ibis. Cheap (for London). Minutes from the nearest tube and Earls Court Exhibition Centre just as close. Maybe not absolute centre of town,but was close enough for me. Even had a lovely walk from hotel to Harrods and then onto Buckingham Palace. It is a chain hotel, but was clean and staff nice, lovey views of town if you get east facing rooms.

In the past I have also stayed in Etap by City Airport which was clean, but very basic and a bit far out. EasyHotel in Earles Court, even more basic, but again clean and central enough for my needs and in my younger days at a few of the Youth Hostels around the City.

For something quite fun to do, contact Channel Five's TV show "The Wright Stuff" and weekdays you can be in the audience for the show LIVE that day. I've done it a few times and it can be fun and a free light breakfast is provided.

Reservations for bed-and-breakfast accommodations in London can be made by writing (not calling) the British Visitor Centre, 1 Regent St., London W1.

If you want to wait until you are in London, you can also visit their office near Piccadilly Circus. They will take your information and where you want to stay versus your budget and find you a place.

As with most capitals the more central you are the higher the cost, to be right in the middle of London one could easily pay over $300 a night.

As stated above, also check out bed & breakfast accommodations, which might prove cheaper and also think about staying slightly outside the center of London as the local buses are cheap and frequent.

One such B&B is Captains Bligh Guest House at 100 Lambeth Road, London SE1 7PT which has 5-totally different styled rooms ranging from £75 about $120 a night for a single room to £100, about $160 for a double.

Their web site states 'A 10 minute walk to the London Eye, 20 minutes to Covent Garden or, with our excellent transport facilities, only a walk or an 8 minute bus ride to Piccadilly and London’s famous West End theatreland.'

I would say if you want something that is clean and central you could look at this one

Premier Inns are a chain and although its not classed a delux it has very good reviews this one is in an excellent location..you aren't going to get much else thats more central for this sort of money.

It has excellent bus and tube links and you really will be able to walk from here so easily to many of the attractions. The London Eye is right outside and if you follow the river Thames you come to The Globe, The tate Modern, the Millenium Bridge to take you to St Pauls. Also you can catch the catamaran to Greenwich and Tower of London just by the London Eye. Opposite the hotel on the other side of the river are The Houses of Parliament and Big Ben and that then leads you to Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square..Buckinham Palace and Mall and near by too..
