we are leaving tomorrow at 6 am. Just checked spirit air to see if my time is still the same. While looking at the site, i was surprised to see under 24 months requires birth certificate. i have a 22 month old and my ta told me that both kids do not require documents. i know that the birth c3erticate is somewhere in my house but where???????????? now i am panicing they will not let us board

Did you buy a seat for your 22 month old? If so, I don't think you need the birth certificate. You need the birth certificate if the under 24 month is flying free as a "lap child", proving that they are eligible.

You don't need the birth certificate to get through security BUT if your child is going to be a "lap baby" or is traveling with an infant fare then Spirit may require you prove your child is young enough to qualify for that special fare.

I'd take the time to find proof of age unless you bought a regular fare ticket for your child.

we are looking everywhere-i can never find something when i need it. yes, he is traveling as a lap baby-you have no idea how angry i am at myself for listening to the ta. should have checked it out myself. thanks guys.

How about the child's immunization record? SWA would accept that as well. BTW- SWA is the only airline that has given us grief about the age of our lap baby. I've never seen a business model that focuses on harrassing its clientele.

You got harrassed because your fellow travelers are abusing the system. I saw a woman have her child denied boarding on DL one time because she couldn't prove the baby was under two (and he wasn't!)

I agree that an immunization record may suffice. A note from your baby's pediatrician (on official letterhead) may be helpful as well ? Maybe give Spirit a call to check. I wish you luck in finding the birth cert !

I know that I am too late to help the OP but we did a quick trip on Spirit and did not have a birth certificate for our 23 month old. We had to buy a ticket for her and they told us we could FAX a copy of her birth certificate to HQ for a full refund.

They did refund us but it took over 5 months. Kept losing it, did get it, etc.... When I threatened to call my charge card to file a dispute, they suddenly put the refund through.

When traveling with a lap child, I would suggest at least a photocopy of the birth certificate, unless the airline states otherwise.

You do realize the origainal poster is flying on Spirit? Which would mean that there are at least 2 airlines out there that focuses on harrassing the clientele.

Why do you think it is wrong to have a company ask you to prove that your child doesn't have to buy a seat? It is safer for the child to have a seat anyway.

I guess I don't see it as harrassment when a person is getting a privledge based on the age of the child. IE - a lap child, non paying flier I think it appropriate that a customer prove he or she is indeed entitled to that by providing proof of age. I don't know about the OP's airline but SWA and AA state this policy clearly in the website and the IMHO the TA should have known better. I hope things went well for the OP and they are enjoying the vacation.
