Ok! If you're going to be in the Amicalola Falls area, you'll certainly want to head over to Dahlonega, GA and walk around the historic square. Lots of nice shops and restaurants, and the gold museum in the old courthouse. I always like to stop and try gold panning up at Crisson gold mine (I seem to find the most in their buckets for the money than at any of the other places). Consolidated Gold Mine is a neat tour through an old underground mine. It's just north of Dahlonega.
Another nice waterfall, not requiring a "hike" is Anna Ruby Falls, just outside of Unicoi State Park. There is another small tourist town nearby called Helen, just south of Unicoi. Helen will cause quite a bit of traffic on the weekends, and it's nice to walk around. It's built to look like an Alpine village. To me, it's gotten a bit run down in the past few years, and I don't bother going much any more.
Another worthwhile drive is to go up to Brasstown Bald. No waterfall, but it's the highest mountain in Georgia. Fantastic views off the top of it. No hiking required there either. They have a shuttle bus that will take to from the parking lot to the summit, where they have a viewing platform and a small museum built on top. Most of the other Georgia waterfalls require either a bit of hiking to or some dirt forest service roads to get to. Some of them are fairly short hikes (Desoto falls-2mi. total, Duke's Creek Falls-2mi. total, Long Creek Falls-2mi hike, but about 15 miles of dirt road, High Shoals falls-very nice, but 2.5 mi. with much elevation change and some dirt roads). If you want any more information, or link a few of my facebook pictures of the falls, I'd be happy to send them along. Most of the stuff I mention above either has websites, or you can find info by googling.
If you venture up into North Carolina, I can give you a couple more REALLY fantastic waterfalls (google Whitewater Falls in NC).
