Traveling after Covid-19?

I think it'll depend on just how bad it gets. Speaking for myself, I cannot wait until it is clear to travel again. I'm planning on going up to our up north property as soon as the weather warms up so that we can at least enjoy the woods while we isolate, which is permitted under our state's stay-at-home order, and as soon as we can resume normal vacations I will (assuming we can still afford it). But I think there are likely to be a lot of people who are going to struggle to get back to work and who will have big holes to dig out of when they do, so I think that's likely to be a drag on travel and tourism spending for quite some time.

I also think this, far more than 2008, could push people into more of a "saving" posture which will also limit travel spending in the long term, especially in the lower income brackets where building up a reserve is slow if not impossible for many. Even 60 years after the Depression, my grandparents didn't feel right about spending money on vacations; I suspect some people who survive this may come out of it feeling the same way.

No. I don’t think there will be a boom. I think some people will be nervous about travel for awhile, but many more will need to put their travel plans on hold due to financial reasons.

I don't think there will be a travel boom either. I think we could end up with some serious inflation, and that reduces the spending power of those that still have job security. Not to mention all of those who will have lost their jobs.

I also don't think we'll get a sudden "all clear" where everything returns to normal all at once. I think we are going to see a gradual lifting of restrictions, first on places like campgrounds, state parks, beaches, etc. I think places like WDW will also have a gradual re-entry to normal. They won't be able to just suddenly call back that entire massive workforce they have had to furlough, reduce, or let go. Many will be nervous to travel, so confidence will have to gradually be restored as well.

I don't know if it will bounce back immediately. I think there will be a number of factors to consider, economic and fear among them. I know my husband and I booked a cruise to Alaska for September. I am considering cancelling it for several reasons not the least of which is my husband is in a high risk category - 2 strokes, diabetes and heart disease make me worry about that. The ship we are to cruise on has had confirmed cases and headed back to port and while I know it will be thoroughly sanitized that will be in my mind.

I was worried when this all started but my worry increased after conversations with my daughter who is a nurse and has been treating patients with the virus. She told me that even she didn't realize how bad it was until she had patients assigned to her with the virus and she is scared. She advised me to seriously wait a year. I may do it and just hope my husbands vision holds on long enough for him to see it.

I think people will be leary of traveling. I just worry that once we all get the green light to "move about" again the virus will spike again.
