Do you use Traveler's Cheques and if so is that all you bring or do you bring cash too? Also, can TC be used anywhere in WDW? I know they are a smart thing to use but I think they are a pain. DH says we should get them. What's your opinion?

We are leaving on 4/12 so I need to get things in order late this week or early next. Thanks!

Since I'm staying at Shades of Green, I can't charge things to my room while in the parks. I usually use a combination of travelers checks and cash. You can get the travelers checks in large denominations ($50 or $100) to save on the hassle-factor. Just use them anywhere in WDW, and they will give you cash back for the amount you don't spend.

I plan to use an American Express Travelers Check Card this next trip. Works like a travelers check (if they're lost or stolen, you can get reimbursed). Looks like a gift card. Better than a debit card, because it's not tied to your checking account.

ZoZo - Can I get the Travelers Check CARD at the same place I would get the checks? That sounds like a good idea...Thanks!

I have always used Travelers checks. It is the only way to travel. You can get them where you have two signatures on them so that anyone else traveling with you IE wife and or husband can redeem them without you being present . I do not like the tc card if you lose that ,then you are out of money until you get it replaced. With tc you can leave some in your safe at the resort and still have some cash on hand if you lose any when you are at the park. And if you belong to AAA they are free of charge . I do also carry some cash on me for tips. But they are accepted everywhere.Have a great trip..

We also use the traveler's Checks. We have never has any problems with them. We don't take cash, just the traveler's checks and credit card for any emergency.

I've got some travelers chq's for my trip next year, but I'm thinking of taking a few US dollars also, just incase we need them to get started. I'm lead to believe that the chq's can be cashed in most shops now over in Orlando...so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed!

Check with your credit union or bank. If they don't carry them, it's worth calling around to some of the bigger financial institutions in your city. You can also order them online on the American Express web site. The fee is a little higher than "paper" travelers checks, but they're much less cumbersome.

I used to use traveler's checks because of the safety. But now I find that I need very little cash (only a little tip money) I put everything on either my Disney credit card or my room key. So much easier.

When we usually travel we bring traverlers checks but at WDW we brought about $300 cash for taxi cabs & tips and our overnight in L.A...everything else at WDW went on CC via Key to the Kingdom card! So convenient!

I love using travelers checks and highly recommend. Everywhere in Disney accepts them, although at snack carts I just paid cash. I'm sure that they would have taken them, but it seemed easier.

On my most recent trip to Disneyland, I had gotten AMEX gift cards as well, but didn't like using them. I had $100 on 1 and tried to use it at the Disney store for a bill that was a little over $100. The cashier couldn't get it to go through because the card value was less than total. She didn't seem to know how to go sales with more than 1 MOP.

I like to bring TC as a back-up supply of money. Sometimes I use them and sometimes not. It has come in handy, especially since there are times that I don't like to carry credit cards (e.g. late nights out) and it is less visible than a large wad of cash.

Not to mention that sometimes I need those souvenirs! It is nice to not come home to huge credit card bills.

In our many trips to Disney, TC's has always been the way I take my money. I have never been turned down at any Disney store, cart, restaurant or resort desk wanting to pay with them. I use Am Ex and get them from my credit union. Just make sure that you keep the #'s seperated from the actual checks incase they are lost or stolen. It has become the only means of carring large sums of money when I travel.

Also is you don't use them all, I've been know to put whats left over in our safety deposit box for the next Disney trip.

I have never used traveller's checks, and I wonder what the advantage is? To me, it seems like a lot of trouble when you can just use cash and credit cards, even if you don't have a Key to the World. Am I missing something?

That only works if you can charge things to your room. Some people can't - even though I'm staying on-property, Shades of Green doesn't allow you to charge to your room, since' it's not an "official" WDW property.

Well, if you lose your wallet and/or cash/credit cards, you're up a creek without a paddle. The cash is completely gone, and it would be hard to get a replacement credit card very quickly.

With travelers checks, you can have them replaced if they're lost or stolen. Plus, I like the convenience of pre-paying for my expenses, rather than charging things.

Okay, that is what I thought. The way I look at it, though, is that this could happen anytime, anywhere. You don't have to be on vacation to have your stuff lost or stolen. If I were the only adult in my party, I'd worry about it, but even on business I almost always travel with someone else. Definitely, though, if I ever travel alone I will get them, because I did have a colleague have EVERYTHING (including her passport:scared1: ) stolen in London- she was taking a later flight than I- and our being apart for only a few hours ruined her trip.

As for prepaying, I like to run up bills and get my freebies. Then I pay them off at the end of the month. I'd pay for everything on a credit card if I could! So, I guess traveler's checks aren't for me, unless I am traveling alone. Thanks!
