Delta is switching from terminals 5 & 6 to 2 & 3 and 14 other airlines are doing the opposite. For the last few weeks the local news has been warning that this will lead to a week of heavy traffic, confusion and added check in times. Local newspapers have photos of half covered terminals and not yet operational check in kiosks.

Warning to anyone at DLR now, you may not be departing from the same terminal where you arrived!

It may also be worth the extra effort to check in and print boarding passes before arriving at LAX, travel with carry ons only or use skycap service when available.

That's not quite right. Some are swapping terminals between 2/3 and 5/6, but others are moving to the Tom Bradley International Terminal, and there are some odd outcomes (e.g., Avianca currently is in 2; its counter will move to 3 but its flights will operate out of the TBIT).
