We just flew to visit our inlaws and I was a nervous wreck with our 2 year old, but she did great so now I'm gearing up for our Disney trip in a few weeks without fear!! Hooray!

I wanted to share an idea that was passed on from a friend and it worked great for my daughter. I bought her a little Disney Princess Travel Vanity set from Big Lots for $7.99. I only left a few of the items in it (fake nail polish, compact) and put other toys and goodies that she's never played with before, coloring books, snacks, etc. Her favorite was a small Magna Doodle that I got at Target.

She loved having her own piece of "luggage" to carry on the plane and enjoyed playing with some new toys. She constantly asked for "my bag!" every time we hit the road during our visit.

I hid it as soon as we got home so it will be new and exciting to her again when we fly to Orlando later this month.

Happy travels!

I may have to make a trip to the nearest Big Lots! soon. My DD will be 3 at the end of the month and she likes to have her nails painted and wear "lipstick" (actually a colorless lip balm). Is the nail polish included in this case strictly "pretend", basically an empty bottle with a brush-like thing in the cap, or is it a "child's" version of nail polish? I definitely don't want to get the latter as the mother of one of DD's friends said her experience has shown it doesn't wash out of clothes and is hard to take off her DD's nails. My DD would be just fine with the pretend type as she already has used a dry paint brush when doing my nails. :)

On our recent flight to and from MCO, I found my DD really liked the little pack of Play Doh I got at the Dollar Tree. I don't think she'd ever played with it before so I wasn't sure what she'd think of it but it really kept her busy. Of course, it was a bit of a mess and there wasn't much left when we got home but I think that was the best dollar I spent on a toy for this trip.

The nail polish was completely fake. Just a little purple bottle that unscrews with a fake brush. She enjoyed pretending to paint all of our nails and then her own. Hope you can find one at Big Lots. They also saw them at a local toy store, but for $3 more.
