Travel times from resorts

Is there a Web page or something that shows average travel times between each resort and the places it has buses, monorails, etc. to? We're trying to figure out if there are any times we might want to take a cab instead of waiting for a bus (e.g., to get from AKL to MK in time for opening).

Thanks!

Thanks for the post! Unfortunately, I think this is only almost what I am looking for :) . I'm interested in how long it takes, for example, the bus to get from a park to a resort. This might be significantly different than what the distance implies if there are other stops. See what I mean?

By the way, looking at the page you sent me to it looks like you can't get any farther from MK than AKL! Still 12 miles doesn't seem like that much distance by bus -- unless there is a crowd and we have to wait.

Anyone have a feel for whether a bus or a cab would be better to go from AKL to MK first thing in the morning?

Thanks!

There is no reason to take a taxi from any resort to any theme park. Disney buses start running about an hour before theme park opening so you will get there in plenty of time. Disney also runs earlier buses to take people to the various character breakfasts, tours, etc. going on before park openings. We have never had any problem getting to any theme park before opening by using Disney transportation. Also, FYI, if you took a taxi to the MK you would be dropped off at the TTC and have to either take the boat or monorail over to the MK. Only Disney buses are allowed near the Magic Kingdom. They drop you off very close to the MK entrance.

As for your timing question, I would guess that the longest bus ride is maybe 20 minutes, with most less than that. The AKL would not share a bus with any other resort so you will have no problems taking the buses to all the parks.

I have found AKL to have some of the best transportation on property. The buses make no other stops, so you're express to wherever you're going. For MK especially I'd recommend the bus, since a taxi would leave you at the TTC, as wdwgoofeee mentioned.

I know the print version of the Unofficial Guide has the travel times on the bus and by car from each of the resorts.

It lists a minimum and maximum time for each.

The 2006 UG comes out this month I believe.

You can often find copies in your local library.

disney has excellent transportation especially from the resorts to the theme parks.

now from resort to resort (because you have to go to a park or DD) it stinks - but from the resort to a park. No if you are staying onsite you will never need to get a taxis.

go over on the transportation board - there are several WDW bus drivers over there.

they could give you a benefit time.

It seems like we're good-to-go with buses for most of the trip, with the exception of one day when we'll be going from AKL to the Contemporary for dinner, in which case we'll take a cab (right?).

We have another day when we'll be going from Typhoon Lagoon to Downtown Disney -- can I assume there is a bus available? They're pretty close to each other, right?

Thanks bunches for all the help!

depends if the MK is still open (or within 90 minutes of it closing) - I would just take the bus to the MK - then walk over to the Cont or take the monrail.

yes a bus goes from TL to dd - but it is not a direct route.

the DD bus goes to other places that DD. Internal route, TL, TTC.

so if you want to take a taxis I would do it here.

however that say - always ask the bus driver. they know best. go over to the transportation board now and ask the bus drivers over there.

AKL is the farthest out from MK so the ride on their bus can take 15 to 20 minutes whereas the ride to Epcot/MGM may take 10 to 12 minutes and of course AK is a short 2 minute ride away.

As for resort to resort this varies and can take anywhere from nearly an hour to more than that to get where you want to go especially from AKL. Sometimes it is best to take a cab if you have a dinner ressie that you want to make on time. Otherwise you will learn how to transfer buses at a park or DTD to get to the resort you want.

There are only a few reasons to take a cab. Going from Resort to Resort. Yes you can do it by bus, but why waste precious park time?

Another place I take a cab to is TL or BB. I had one horrible trip from GF to TL that included a 20 minute wait at DD. It was well over an hour and that park is only opened for for six hours, big waste.

If you have your heart set on being one of the first in the park on morning EMH in Epcot from an Epcot resort, it is best IMHO, to take a cab to the FRONT of the park. Long story but although I was 2nd in line, the International gateway did not open until about 8:10 and by then the line at TT was full.

Otherwise, I think Disney Transportaion is just wonderful. :wizard:
