Travel Space bags

Has anyone ever purchased these? Do they really work? Where did you buy them from? Thanks for any info!

I have them, but, find that the 2.5 Gallon Size Ziplock Bags work just as well. They are CHEAPER too!

I have both "space bags" and "packmates" - Spacebags you use a vacuum to remove the air in the bag; with packmate you roll the air out manually. I purchased two 'sets' of packmates for our upcoming trip from QVC. I have already packed most of the clothes and it really does create so much more room in the suitcase that we will be travelling w/ one less 30" case this year! You pack your clothes in the bag, zipper it closed and then roll it up towards the opposite end where there is a one-way air valve; smooth out the bag and it stays flat until you unzip it. My set came w/ 2 jumbo bags, 2 large bags, 4 medium and 4 small for $25. I used the medium bags for my 12 yr. olds' clothes and could fit 3 pairs of shorts and 5 tee shirts in the bag. My 18 yr. old used the large bags and fit 5 pairs of cargo shorts and 5 shirts in one bag. I packed our toiletries in the small bag - all the bags are waterproof. I purchased the bags primarily for security reasons at the airport. I was listening to a radio program where they had a security advisor on and they had recommended bags like these for the traveler's convenience so they don't have to go through and rummage through the clothes if they do a check.

I also purchased my set from QVC (love it). I have a question thought, when I was practicing using them, sometimes the bags reverted to almost the original size. I thought I had followed all directions. Is there something I should be extra careful with in doing?

That happend to me too, at first. Two things: Make sure you zip it closed 2 or 3x across - sometimes the force of air as you are expelling the air will cause the seal to open. Two: Make sure as you are expelling the air towards the top you leave room at the top. The clothes will automatically roll towards the top as you are pushing out the air. Stop half way, push to clothes away from the top and then roll up again making sure all the air can escape at the valve. It really is quite simple.

90% of my clothes are packed and none of them have reverted to the original size.

I cant tell you for sure that they work, I have not used them yet,

But I got mine from the Samsonite luggage outlet store. They are called space savers, and work without a vacume.

They were a little less expensive as the ones on QVC. They came in small boxes, one had 3 carry on sizes. and the other I bought had 2 suitcase size and 2 carry on size. (carry on fit in a piolets bag). My total cost for 2 boxes of carryon, and 1 box of the combo, was around $35 after taxes. ( I have 8 carry on size total, and 2 suitcase size.)

If you have a Samsonite store near you I would get them from there personally.

I wouldn't count on airport security just leaving those bags intact. I have an amusing story about the new airport security. I was randomly picked this month on my way onto a puddle-jumper in ORD with my 2 year old. As they were "wanding" me they asked me to turn around and my 2 year old took off like a shot up the jetway. *sigh* I looked real dangerous too.

I also bought the Samsonite Space Savers for $14.99. It comes with four bags. You can also buy them at stores like Linens and Things and Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I think they work well for bulkier items like big beach towels and sweat shirts. Since my DH and I wear tank tops to the parks, they don't do too much for the small space they take up anyway. On our WDW trip in two weeks we will be using them for our towels.

I have the space bags and they work well. Can store alot of stuff in 1 bag. Great idea for going there. However, when your ready to come home, where do you get a vacuum cleaner to repack everything you took ?
Maybe from the maid or guest services ?????

That is why I love the packmates - they are made especially for travel. You don't have to worry about securing a vaccuum.

I am glad to see so much info on this subject. Saw them advertised and wondered if they really worked. I am interrested in the bags that do not require a vacuum. Now my big question is, do clothes get wrinkled in them from rolling them up and squishing them? I definatley do not do ironing on vacation but do want to look presentable to Mickey and friends. Feedback on this question folks?

I bought my travel bags from QVC about 2 years ago and use them every trip. They are fantastic. For your trip home you can even separate laundry loads and squish them in the bags. Since the bags are sealed, it helps eliminate the "all day in a theme park" smell that clothes get.
I wouldn't travel without them.

I think the bags work fine - I have opened mine up after a week and the kids clothes look fine. I am the kind of person that does iron on vacation - "I know, I know - how ridiculous", but any wrinkles get me crazy --- I agree about the Downy - I buy a spray bottle of that when I am down there and that seems to save time! I wish they would come out with a travel size!!!!! One more thing, DH had a long cylinder shaped object (like a rolling pin, only heavier) and we tried that - it worked! So you don't have to even roll up the bag and straighten out the clothes afterwards. However, you do need 2 pairs of hands to do this - but it worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I fit so many clothes in one suitcase that would have taken up 2 30" pullmans! We do not travel lightly and one day I will learn the secret!

So nice to see others who have tried them. I saw them on QVC and didn't buy them that day, wish i had now but i can always go online and look for them. If they are this good, they must be great for packing away winter stuff - is it safe to put moth balls in them or are they so airtight that there's no need for that? Caroline
