Travel sized humidifier?

Can anyone recommend a small travel humidifier? I find hotel rooms to be very dry and I have purchased (and left behind) too many cheap Vicks Vaporizers to count. I use an ultrasonic at home but I don't care what kind I get for hotel rooms as long as it's packable, relatively quiet and gets the job done.

It works really well, although it should be placed near you (nightstand for instance). It won't do a large room. I got it for my dry eyes.

Thank you for the recommendation. I have lugged the regular one on car trips before, but this will be so helpful when flying! I think the dry air in hotels is one of the biggest reasons people get sick traveling.

Hmm, I was just reading yesterday about our possible trip to Park City, UT. Someone suggested humidifiers to help with altitude sickness. I know I didn't feel well when we drove in Estes Park on our honeymoon, but felt okay other places in CO. Was wondering if I needed a humidifier in UT. If so, this looks like a good option.

I usually put a wet towel over the air vent in hotel rooms. I've considered one of those little ones that use the water bottle. Are they big enough to do a good job in a hotel room?

No, they won't increase humidity in a large room. However, they do a good job close up. So, I keep one at my desk because I have dry eyes and my eyes get very tired while on the computer. I keep mine about 3-4 feet away from me and it really makes a difference (I don't use it everyday, just when they are flaring up).

I would imagine that if you kept it on your nightstand, it would be fine for when you are sleeping.

The one I posted about is very quiet and is almost sort of soothing to listen to.

Ooo! Thanks for the recommendation Christine! I have needed a humidifier for YEARS. The past few weeks I have started getting nosebleeds because it's so dry in here. But the last humidifier I had was so large & clunky. It had a water tank about the size of a small aquarium. It was too heavy to lug back & forth to the sink. I accidentally banged one corner on the sink. It got a hole in it that I had to plug up with putty or something. It was designed in such a way that it had to be flipped over to fill. So I could not simply bring pitchers of water to fill it. It had to be lugged to the sink. That was extremely inconvenient as it was up on a high shelf of my bookcase (out of the way) and the heavy water tank had to be hoisted up each time.

It also required a lot of cleaning. Having developed chronic fatigue over the last few years, I know that any humidifier I get now that requires too much maintenance is going to be sitting around waiting for cleaning, more than it will get used.

The worst part was that in the summer, it was so big, and living in a small apartment where every bit of storage space is crucial, it ended up sitting out unused as FURNITURE on my bookshelf.

I need something small, can sit anywhere near me, be easy to clean, and be stowed away during the months I don't use it. The unit you recommended seems to fit the bill on all points listed.

It definitely works for the immediate area, just don't expect it to take care of large areas. The good thing is that you can also control the output (fine to heavy misting). Be careful about where you set it. I do set my on my desk but I have to be careful about putting papers around the perimeter area as they end getting kind of damp. If you are setting it on a wood table, you may want to put a cloth down. The vapor definitely goes up into the air and you get no real water on the surface, but it does get "humid" in the vicinity of the device.

Thanks for the advice. That should work fine. I realized I tend to sit/work in about 2-3 areas at home. I'm either sitting in one area while on the web or writing or watching TV. A second place while making art. And another place while sleeping. So I can easily move it to where I will be when when I know I'm going to be camped in an area for a while.

Plus, the building regulates the heat here. It is usually so high that, like now, I have the window opened a crack to let in some cool air. I think that always interferes with a large humidifier being able to equalize the humidity of the whole room. I just need it humid right where I am.
