Travel New England-Must Do's

If you're going to hit New Hampshire I suggest visiting Rye/Rye Beach on the seacoast. It's absolutely gorgeous, charming, laid back and brimming with history.

There have actually been a couple bestselling fiction novels that pertain to Rye-one of them being Weight of Water. Isles of Shoals is such an incredibly interesting place to read of and learn of.

My husband is NH born and bred and we go out there a few times a year to visit his family, we always spend a week in Rye during the summer. A friend of mine is in Vermont and we drove to visit her from NH and it was a quick ride and just gorgeous. Coming from Chicago I have to say that I witnessed some of the cleanest, sparkling bodies of water in Vermont. Blew my mind.
OT but............
have you ever read the other Anita Shreve novel ( The Last Time they Met)........
I believe it comes after in time from weight of water since what happened on that boat is talked about.

I agree with a PP about the Boston Museum of Science. One of the best! The New England Aquarium isn't too far away, either. Boston is one of those cities that you really need to spend two or three days in to really see it. Definately check out Quincy Market for a relatively cheap lunch; lots of good places in there. I also agree with the Duck Tour; great way to see the city, and it's loads of fun, too!

The White Mountains in NH are beautiful. You can drive to the top of Mount Washington (http://www.mountwashingtonautoroad.com/), which at about 6,200 feet, is the highest point in the northeastern US.

The Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woodsis the perfect place to stop for an excellent lunch with an amazing view. http://www.brettonwoods.com/

It always reminds me of the hotel from The Shining.

There are tons of places to take gondola rides, drive through covered bridges, go on hikes, ranging from quick and easy to longer and tougher to see waterfalls. http://www.visitwhitemountains.com/things-to-do/default.aspx

The seacoast of Maine beautiful. Lots of great little places to stop in and shop some unique shops and nice little restaurants. There is York, Ogunquit, Kennebunkport and Kittery. .

For the Maine coast, Acadia National Park including Cadillac Mountain.
