I was reading about someone who said their child could play webkins on the laptop in the car with a travel modem? I have searched online for them and they don't seem to have that capability. Am I missing something? Is there another name for them? That would be super nice to have for our drive!

I use my Blackberry as a modem. Haven't tried it in the car, but it works great in hotel meeting rooms so that I don't have to pay the wireless fee.

I just wish Webkinz would work on netbooks. I bought one for DD for Christmas, and the resolution is too low -- it doesn't load right. :headache:

How do you use your blackberry as a modem? Do you have to pay extra for that? I have a blackberry with Verizon.

I just got my Blackberry and would love to know that. Mine came with a disc and I think all I have to do is sync them, if that makes sense.

As far as I know as long as you have an unlimited Data Plan, there is no additional fee, there isn't with T-mobile.

Im pretty sure that is correct with all Wireless companies!! and normally yse you just have to sync the two and thats it.

We are a MiFi card which is like WiFi for up to 5 wireless devices and its completely secure you have to have the code to access the internet on it. We have it thru verizon and love it!!:lovestruc The price is the same as the aircard a month just a lil more upfront but worth it if you need if for more than one computer. No more dialup for me but if we go on a trip we can take it with us. Its the size of a credit card only a lil thicker.

They work just as well as any home IP -- however...

...monthly service can be quite high from the 4 "legacy" cell phone carriers. However, I do understand that both Virgin Mobile and Circket now sells pre-paid/no contract products at places like Best Buy.

Also, be aware that while in the car, you may/may not be able to get a signal from the nearest cell tower (patricularly, in rural areas).

I have a blackberry with unlimited data through Verizon and there is an extra $15 per month tethering fee to use your phone as a modem for a PC. I've had it for 3 or 4 years, works well.

It works in the car as long as you are in a coverage area (obviously). I don;t use it tethered in the car, but when my kid has it's worked.

Hey, that was me!!! I don't think I have ever had someone start a thread about something I said before, Cool!!! :cool1:

Depends on the netbook, my kids and I have Acer Aspires and Webkinz works fine. :thumbsup2

What we have is through Verizon and it the wireless broadband USB modem, is pricey from my understanding. Our is unlimited, don't know if there is a less expensive plan that has a certian number of minutes. My DH is Director of IT, so his job goes with us everywhere we go (sooooo annyoing!) so we have this for him for work but it is paid for my his company.

From some reason I thought I read that TMobile "doesn't allow" this. I'd love to know if I'm am wrong because we have a blackberry and Motorola Cliq - would love if we could use to get internet in odd places (like my mom's house!)

We use the Blackberry, too, and it does work fine in the car (as long as you're not out in the middle of nowhere w/out a signal!). DH has a Blackberry with unlimited data with Sprint through his work. For those asking how to get it to connect, you need to go to sprint's website and download "Sprint Smart View". It will allow your blackberry to connect as a modem. --Katie

Several T-mobile reps that told me about it, I wasn't aware it did it, but then again I have only had my Blackberry a little over a week. They said it runs slower than DSL, but for my needs it really doesn't matter. It gives me the directions in the T-mobile guide book that came with my BB. But my BB will do all I wnated my computer to do, so I may not even need to take my computer.

I don't know anything about the Cliq, they tried to push me to buy it and it is too much phone for me right now.

I may give it a try this weekend.

I have an Aircard. Don't know what it costs, or anything about it. My job provides it, so I just plug it in whereever I am, and I can get online on my computer.
