Travel Insurance

Who buys it? Who hasn't? Is it worth it? Has anyone used it?

My suggestion is to look at your health insurance. Will it cover you out of the US? Will it cover a helicopter evacuation if needed? This can cost up to $25K depending on where the ship is and the situation!

You can make 2 types of errors here. The first is not to buy it and then to need it. In that case, you could be out $25K plus a ruined vacation. The second is to buy it and not need it (this happens to most of us). In that case, you are out a relatively small amount.

I don't buy thru Disney....there are cheaper/better private policies available.

in all of my travels, the one time i needed it was the one time i didn't buy it. Kind of like having car or house insurance in hopes that you won't ever need to use it.

We always get it and we have both primary and secondary insurance coverage. For the small cost, it's worth the peace of mind.

So far in 7 cruises, we've seen or heard of medical emergencies on each one - broken bones, heart attack, stroke...etc. We hope to never need it, but at least we know we are covered!

I would get it. We just got back from land/sea vacation on Sunday. Before we left we found out my FIL was close to death. We didn't know if we were going to be able to go and we would not have received a refund because it was last minute (or at least a full refund). He ended up making it and we went, but while there, my DD got a 102 temp and threw up, my DH got a terrible rash, I got a 102 temp, and then my DH lost a crown. The day after returning I got the stomach flu really bad--if I was still on board I would have had to stay in my cabin and needed medical attention. With all these things going wrong, we never needed the insurance, but the peace of mind that if we needed to call the doctor and cancel our trip, it would have been okay. For the amount of money you spend on your vacation, this is such a small price--just don't purchase it through Disney. Much more expensive.

We have gotten it both cruises (and plan to for the next one), and used it last cruise. DD and DH were quarantined with Norwalk. Insurance refunded the prorated amount of the cruise that we were quarantined. Very little questions, and easily done. It's well worth the $ IMO.
