Has anyone found a company that is offering International Travel Insurance right now?

My niece has been living in France for a year and due to delays in her visa being extended due to a cancelled appointment because of Covid, she cannot leave France but her travel insurance is running out. Her current insurance company is not willing to renew her policy.

Just wondering if anyone here has found a company that is issuing travel insurance at this time?

Don't know if Manulife is writing new policies now but do know it extended some limited coverage late this spring to Canadians stuck abroad. Perhaps worth her while to check online.

Also check eligibility? Can you be covered by travel insurance in perpetuity? I know at least some have limitations on maximum length of trip.

one problem she may run into with a Canadian policy is that most travel insurance policies for Canadians require the insured to be physically present in Canada when the policy starts - you can't already be out of the country (or in some cases, home province). Most also require you to be covered by your provincial medical insurance, which your niece may not be after an absence that long. She may need a different kind of insurance, possibly insurance that she purchases in France [similar to policies people coming to Canada could buy here in Canada if they are not covered by the Canadian medical insurance system because eg their visa status makes them not eligible for it, eg an international student].

Thanks for your input. Yes, she is also trying to obtain insurance in France.

She was originally supposed to come home for a bit next month but due to non-renewal if visa at this time and mandatory 2 week quarantine, she is staying in France. If she has to she will come home but it’s not her first choice as she doesn’t know when she’ll be able to return. She is doing a remote masters degree with the University if Ottawa which allows her to study abroad.
