I usually buy travel insurance thru Allianz. On our upcoming trip however, I am thinking of skipping this because one of my credit card benefits is travel insurance ( trip interruption and accident, car rental). Can anyone provide input- if we need to file a claim, how smoothly (or not) is the process going thru the credit card insurance benefit vs. when you have a separate travel insurance policy?
I realize that every credit card and policy is different but Im just trying to get a general idea. Say, my flight got delayed, is it harder to get my money back with the credit card company vs. an insurance agenxy directly?
Also, how many people buy addtl trip insurance anyway despite having this benefit from the CC?

Thanks.

Harder thru any CC, IME

Only a few top tier CC include any worthy travel insurance.

Are asking how many travelers buy real primary travel insurance outside their CC's?

I will guess 27.67%

2.79% make claims.

0.97% receive a payment from their travel insurance.

Good luck to all.

While we are on this subject.
I was reading our policy recently and noticed , no coverage if any alcohol in system within 24 hours. EEK
Good luck meeting that requirement aboard a cruise ship.

I was surprised, interested, frustrated, then content.

Also no coverage that has anything to do with a carabiner. lol
IOW no coverage for Zip lines, among other things.
You have to sign up for their astronomical sport rider.

Please keep this in mind.

Read the policy. Ask questions. Purchase wisely.
There are annual policies for frequent travelers.

Safe travels to all

CC coverage doesn't any medical coverage either, in case you get sick or hurt while on your cruise or in a foreign country.

My main reasons for buying trip insurance are: pre-existing conditions, work reason cancellation, and med evacuation. If one of us has to be air evacuated, I want to be covered because each incident can be upwards of $25,000. We both have pre-existing conditions I want to be sure are covered; and if anything were to happen that I suddenly can't get out of work then I don't have to worry about losing thousands. We have yet to need it, but for the low premium it gives us great peace of mind!

We have coverage on our CC but still buy up to better insurance. I am mostly afraid of medical costs which would not be covered. We don't have any preexisting conditions I am afraid of, but bones can break & I know enough people that have had their gall bladders and appendixes removed in an emergency scenario that its worth the peace of mind to me.

Get trip insurance from an insurance company, too cheap to pass it up and rely on a credit card company. Friends of a co-worker this past summer had to medic vac their child back to the US from the Bahamas due to a pop up illness. Several thousands of dollars
