Travel Insurance

Got ours through Virgin, but it all depends on how much cover you want. Doing s price comparison website will sort you out.

Between Direct Travel and Columbus Direct via Topcashback or Quidco (check both for the best deal) I've had consistently great prices over the last four years or so. You can tailor make your policy too, so you don't have to pay for insurance for things that are already covered under another policy, for example your home insurance. You can also add in optional extras if you choose to do so. Both do family cover which includes children in your family under 18 (I think it's 18. Double check that).

No company is the best for everyone, we all get differing quotes for our own circumstances.
For example we need cruise cover, have to be screened for a medical condition and need independent travel for our Son (many companies cover children if still at Uni but not if they go alone, only travelling with parents)
We have found best cover with AA annual travel insurance & 18% Quidco cashback. I think this is our 3rd year with them now.

Remember cheapest is not always best, only 2 times I have claimed on travel insurance they have both been declined (Asda & Insure and Go)

Thanks everyone - I got it via TopCashBack with Admiral. A very good price.

@lost*in*cyberspace - normally we are really good and get it with the booking, but for some reason this time we didn't, and to be honest I've only just really started thinking about it... very disorganised this year

Because if something happens between booking the trip and you going on holiday that prevents you from going away you may need to make a claim.

You should be covered then, I usually buy single trip cover as I usually only have one foreign trip a year. I buy it as soon as I have parted with more money than I am prepared to lose if something goes wrong.

If you book a package you only stand to lose the deposit of you have to cancel prior to eight weeks before check in. With DIY I used to get insurance once the flight were booked so it's true in part that you should be covered as soon as possible, but depending when and how you book, not necessarily immediately urgent. I didn't like to take put insurance until the our flights were booked because if we needed to change dates before then, there would have been an amendment fee for the insurance cover. You need to assess all aspects. Not all trips are the same.
