Travel insurance

I'm putting my own package together, and I haven't a clue on whats the best type of insurance to have, or who does the best deals.
Can anyone give me any ideas

I use optionsinsurance i usually take annual insurance. earlier this year i found them from this board. I paid £64 for 2 adults for a year, seems really cheap, but i can't seem to find a fault with it, they offer reasonable cover, just as good as any travel agent gives you. and you get 10% discount when you renewer it.

Option insurnce quoted £70.95, that was for the premium insurance for all of us.
Primary direct were quoting £86 Siomon, and I couldn't get into Tim's link.
£70.95 sounds pretty good though

I agree, sounds pretty good, i will certinely be renewing mine. they don't ask for travel dates either, so mines covered me for a trip to florida, holiday in cuba, a weekend in amsterdam a trip to majorca in jan. and my 3 wek to florida in march. thats what i call value for money. and i wonder why my partner tells me to stop talking about holidays!!!!

I didn't choose Primary Direct just on price but also for the cover - I needed someone who would cover a pre-existing medical condition for my wife. Many will just reject that or won't cover you for anything like that but Primary Direct did in our case.

A comprehensive, albeit expensive, travel policy is offered by American Express (you do not need to have an Amex card to buy this policy). It has generous levels of cover in all the aspects you would expect, but its unique selling point is that it covers you for car hire in North America. This includes CDW and SLI so there is no need to buy the very expensive car hire insurance offered by the tour operators or car hire firms.

If your travel plans include 'free' car hire you may find it is cheaper to buy the Amex policy and decline your tour operator's insurance. Policy costs about £285 for a family.
