Travel Insurance requirement?

Hello! I remember that sometime over the summer, I got an email from DCL saying that anyone 12 and over needed travel insurance, and that this could be waived if you provided proof of vaccination. Is this no longer a requirement now that vaccination is mandatory? I would happily have purchased the DCL travel insurance, but since I paid in full, I'm being told by DCL that I can't purchase it now. I'm just wondering how hard I need to look for an outside provider for insurance...it will be two adults and two kids (3 and 1). I purchased with the Disney Rewards Visa, so I was going to check to see if they had any sort of travel coverage as well. Thank you!

The Disney Visa card offers very minimal travel insurance -- lost bags or something, but not significant with regards to Covid or cruising.
DCL did have a requirement that unvaccinated guests age 12+ must have travel insurance with specific Covid coverage. I don't see it listed anymore which makes sense because everyone age 12+ must now be vaccinated. However DCL does still strongly encourage that everyone have travel insurance. I don't believe you can purchase DCL's coverage after the PIF date. You may find same or better coverage for similar or lower cost using a travel insurance comparison website.

Thank you! I guess we will look into getting travel insurance from a third party website. I've never gotten the travel insurance before, but it seems like it would be a good idea in the current climate. I guess I wasn't sure the trip would actually happen when I booked it, otherwise I would have thought harder about just adding on the DCL provided insurance.

The DCL insurance was 2-3x the price of other insurance I found. At this point, most travel insurance explicitly covers COVID. In fact, the package we ended up buying explicitly covers things like a hotel stay if we are unable to travel home due to COVID. A big comfort now that there's a chance we could test positive at the port (a very low chance, but a chance nonetheless)

I think I know the answer but, do you have to pay the entire fare with this card to be covered?
You only need to charge a portion to the card. I don't know what qualifies as a portion, I guess any amount? Here is a quote from the Chase Reserve benefit guide:
The Cardholder and Immediate Family Members are covered when the Cardholder’s name is embossed on an eligible Card issued in the United States, and the Cardholder charges all or a portion of a Trip to his or her Credit Card Account and/or Rewards programs associated with the Account.

Thanks, we are paying our cruise off tomorrow, so I will use the sapphire card. Thanks so much.

Care to share which company you used? Is that allowed on here?

We did what a lot of people on these boards recommended; we went to squaremouth and got quotes from tons of companies. From there I was able to look at the various options and pick one that that the coverages we wanted.

On our last cruise in 2020 my DD had a medical incident (not covid) in Mexico.
We paid our cruise with American Express.
Their insurance is nothing short of amazing. They covered all of the hospital bill, including medicines and supplies, a week stay in a 4-star hotel with oceanfront view, and flight back for all of us.
The hospital bill, they paid for it on the spot- didn't have to wait for reimbursements.
I will use Amex for as long as I live - I cannot speak more highly of them. Hands down the best cc insurance.

do you have the Amex Platinum? I have it but one thing I found out is that if you want the insurance you have to pay the full amount on the Amex card. I was trying to get spend points for a new card and did not realize that. I put 1/2 on my visa and 1/2 on the AMEX

Yes platinum. 100% on it. I have a points platinum card so the reward for paying a cruise with it is nice too.
