We just submitted a claim to Access America Travel Insurance for expenses incurred when our 9/25 cruise was delayed. I don't expect that anyone from the cruises that weekend have seen any payments from the insurance company yet, but we're curious to hear when you do and anyone's recent results with the insurance.

Our TA encouraged us to save receipts and submitt everything to the insurance company, which we have. We had two unplanned nights at a hotel, food, some hurricane supplies, taxi fare and cell phone charges. We're anxious to see how this goes, and will also keep y'all posted on our outcome.

Hi AllEars,
I submitted our claim to Access America the Tuesday after we got back. Just called them today and they told me they are pulling the original documents because the adjuster can't read the scanned version on his PC. They told me to expect an answer next week.

One note, I'm amazed at the responsiveness of their customer service. I've called three times now and I've not had to wait to speak to a live body.

Cheers!

I'm going to bet that most, if not all of it, gets denied. The position the claims representative at our travel insurance company took was that the cruise was all inclusive and that the refund Disney gave for the unused portion of the trip was full compensation for the delay and they would not pay out above that (the limit on travel delay additional expenses is $100 per day per person--that is less than the cruise fare for each day, so by refunding your cruise fare you have been compensated for the additional expenses according to the initial response from the insurance company). We are still going to file a claim and make the case that we are NOT being made whole by merely the refund of the cruise fare and airline fare.

Hey Calvin, thanks for the information. Keep us posted and we'll do the same.

Doctor P, I'm wondering that insurance company you used? I've never heard of one that wouldn't reimburse for those expenses for trip delay.

I use Travelguard, and part of their policy under trip delay states: "we will pay your additional and unplanned hotel and meal expenses, your essential telephone calls and taxi fare, to a maximum of $300 per day for up to 2 days when no earlier transportation is available"

Yes, that is the same phrasing that ours says. But, you need to read the full contract a little closer. They reiterated to me that they are in the "reimbursement business" . Here is their position: You paid $XXXX for a trip that included XYZ. You had no additional expenses if the airline and cruise company refunded the fare for the time period you are claiming as an interruption. I understand their point, but I don't agree and will be fighting it (I also am counting on the fact that it hasn't gone all the way through the claims process yet--I have had this issue with other insurance companies where they try to dissuade you from filing or appealing but ultimately pay the claim). The travel insurance company is one of if not the largest in the world, but I can't besmirch them further until the claims process is TOTALLY completed.

Fortunately we were covered but did not need to use our insurance since Disney covered the cost 100%, the airline also gave us a full refund, as did the hotel (Marriott) through priceline.com.

It was great to get these reimbursements in full, but we were also very glad to have the insurance just in case.

I received my 25% voucher from All Seas today (10/25). Disney sent it to them on September 22. Glad to see that I actually got!
Now I am completely reimbursed and have even received a very nice appreciation "gift" from Disney Cruise Line.

Thanks Disney!

Rae
