Travel insurance and possible move

Good morning! First of all, my name is David, I was posting here quite frequently back in 99, then the DIS changed boards at about the same time as I took a break from it, so my post count is back down to nothing :earsboy: But hello again!

A few months ago, I planned a trip to WDW for September. Well, now it turns out that I may be moving to Orlando for a job! I didn't apply because WDW is there, but that is definitely a perk!

My trip payment is due in a week, so I was curious, if I get the travel insurance, would I be able to cancel, and get a refund, if I happen to get the job? (so far things are looking good, but I don't want to jinx it.)

What if I don't get the travel insurance? Would I be able to get a refund minus the deposit?

Obviously I wouldn't want to use money to stay at a WDW resort + tickets if I end up moving there shortly after the vacation that I originally had planned. I could use that money for moving expenses..... and season tickets! :earboy2:

Any ideas or comments are welcome.

Thank you so much, it's great to be back!

Hi David - glad to have you back.
Here's my understanding (and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong ;) ), if you book a package a cancel between 6 - 45 days before your vacation, then you get a refund minus $100. If you cancel less than 6 days, then you get a refund minus $200. I really hope my understanding is correct because we are going the first week of October and I did not purchase trip insurance. I figured if a hurricane or something unforeseeable came, then I would cancel and just lose the $100 - $200. The trip insurance would cost my family almost $100 anyway.

Good luck on the job!

You might want to check to see what exactly travel insurance covers. I'm not sure this instance would be covered. I thought it was related more to illness or death in the family. Of course I may be way off the mark.

I agree with the post above, make sure you call the insurance company and get the full details on what exactly it covers. Most people **assume** that it covers this or that when it doesn't. Your best option, call and speak to someone at the insurance company (not at Disney) and get the correct details.

The insurance is not going to cover the "got a new job and I'm moving" scenario. You would be better off not getting the insurance and paying the $100 cancellation fee if you end up moving. The insurance might end up costing you close to $100 anyways, it's $59.95/adult.

I also believe it's restricted to medical reasons and you have to provide a doctors statement.
