My dad is 48 yrs old and 6 months ago had a heart attack he is doing really well and the docs have signed him off. He is back at work 3 months he is back to normal.

BUT i've been trying to get him travel insurance they want £500 for 2 weeks
and we leave in 26 days .:scared:

has anyone had or got the same problem, or know anymore insurance companys i could try.

companys will insure him but not his heart.

thanks

Hi There

I know its not the same , but my mum who has Epilepsy and recovering from Breast Cancer had a great quote from the company below, which is the one I also use. You would have to phone them and ask for a quote though. Good luck and let us know how you get on.:goodvibes Also try Marks and Spencer.

I think your biggest problem is that the heart attack was within the last 12 months. If companies won't cover the heart specifically (and you will have to ring the one florida sun suggested although it looks promising) you may have to decide if you want to risk going without specific cover. They will still cover medical problems normally, provided it is not directly related to the heart. It just depends if you feel able to take the risk. We have just had to do something similar because all of a sudden most of the policies will not cover my husbands transplant, even though it was over 25 years ago. We did establish that if he, for example, had a car crash but had to do different treatment because of the transplant it would be covered as a normal duty of care ie giving the right treatment for the patient. It was just that if there was a problem with the transplant it would not be covered. I'm not sure if this helps you but it may be worth exploring the limits of what they cover.

I think I'm going to be trying the company mentioned as well - it would be good for peace of mind to have full cover!

Try an insurance broker they should be able to find something for you without you having to do all the work.

We used the Post Office for dh when we went after his heart attack. You will have to go through the medical screening and I think it costs us just over £100 plus you have to have the post office travel insurance which was another £50 or something like that. It sounds a lot but we had been quoted over a £1000 before and a lot of insurance companies wouldn't even insure him.

Unfortunately there does seem to be a '12 month rule' with insurance companies :confused3

I'd have seconded M&S, until this year, as they covered DH and his brain tumour in the past.
This year they refused. and, as I understand it, they've changed 'underwriters' (to AXA?) and no longer cover many of the things they used to :sad2:

Help the Aged, on the other hand, covered DH with no problem. Maybe worth a try? :goodvibes

We were told that up to 2 years of having the heart attack it is difficult to get travel insurance for the USA, we went 5 months after dh had had his and then again 5 months later and it wasn't easy to get insurance for either time. Last year we managed to get 12 months insurance from Lloyds TSB, there is a couple of hundred pounds excess but at least the premium was only £56.
