I normally buy the Blue Cross Annual Travel Insurance-seems reasonable at 105.00/yr for our family. However no coverage for trip cancellation.

I was just doing a quote for a vaction package at www.disney.com and see that they include Vacation Insurance as a option..which includes health and trip cancellation. Quote for this is 133.90, but covers only the one trip.

Which got me thinking..what do most people do?
Do you take only the coverage thru the package..or do you stick with a provider from Canada as well for the medical coverage?

I got my coverage through CIBC. I just got medical coverage (up to 2mil), I rented DVC points so I dont think i could be covered for cancellation. My coverage cost $35 for the week for the family, so I didnt think that was to bad....

I have a medical pkg on my homeowners Insurance but I always take the RBC Deluxe plan that includes everthing!! To add on the medical is really not that much more and having had a 'mishap' in the U.S..I'll take all I can get! I am the most OVERinsured person when I travel! Just as I like it!;)

i was just thinking about the insurance thru Disney.com, and I have a feeling that in may be for Americans only? It wouldnt make sense that we would have the same coverage since we have health insurance already (or do you live somewhere that doesnt?)

I would definitely call Disney and ask them about it, but I think that price is a little high?

braydensmom--the insurance is good for Canadians & American's.

I have medical coverage-while in the Province, but if you travel out of the Province/Country you must arrange for your own coverage thru one of the plans (blue cross/rbc etc).

I have not heard of any Province that covers travel medical.

It does cover Canadians we had coverage from Disney for our last trip

Disney's insurance does cover Canadians, however look closely at the details. I believe the medical coverage is VERY low, it would be okay for a small issue, but a major medical emergency it would be insufficient. Also look at the details of the coverage, does it cover air that wasn't book with Disney etc?

You could still do an annual medical package and buy either a non medical vacation package for this trip or just a trip cancellation/interruption product.

There are also annual vacation package but usually are quite pricey and have maximum coverage limits.

The medical coverage is quite low-they do have maximum's.
I feel like I should buy my own medical coverage..and if I can find trip cancellation here too-just get it all in one shot.

They now cover flights not purchased thru disney-was suprised to see that!

We purchased the Disney insurance to cover us for cancellation/interruption. There is also baggage loss/delay and very limited medical coverage. It is only $10 000 medical coverage. That is peanuts, therefore we have also gotten Blue Cross to cover us for medical.

You can get a quote for the whole thing (trip cancellation and full medical) from Blue Cross, and if I remember correctly, the price was better than doing it the way I did (separately from Disney + Blue Cross). The reason I did it separately is because our party of 5 is arriving on separate days and it was more expensive thru Blue Cross that way as they consider it separate coverages and not under one "Family" plan.

Either way, I would NOT recommend the Disney insurance as a medical coverage plan. The amount allowed is just not sufficient to cover any serious medical issue in the States. Better to have too much and never need it than to need it and not have enough.

We purchase our insurance thru CAA. I think we paid around $150 for full cancellation/interuption and medical. It's not cheap but for 8 days it's good peace of mind.

We have trip cancellation/lost baggage on our credit card. I think it was about $60 for the year.

My employer's health insurance covers our travel medical which is a great benefit.

Your quote from Blue Cross sounds really high. I'm sure I never paid more than about $50 for a family plan.

So what resort did you end up choosing???

hey kathy :-)
We are going with POFQ :-)

The 105.00 from blue cross is for a full year..I have bought it for a few years and it was never less--hmmm..what does everyone else pay for the annual plan???

Oh it's for a full year. Okay that makes sense now. We don't travel out of province that much so I use to just buy insurance for each individual trip. Now I get full coverage from work which is a great money saver!

I pay $99 a year with the bmo mosaik card and it covers ALL trips I take for medical, cancellation, baggage, etc.... as long as I charge a portion of the trip to that card.

Don't know anything about Mosaic..I know I just had my Aerogold replaced with the new Infinite card and it comes with many similar trip coverages such as medical and trip interruption but NOT cancellation protection. Make sure there are no itty bitty loopholes as they like to surprise us with. Also-at least 75% of the trip muct have been originally put on that same credit card. So again-something to keep in mind, at least with this card.

As for Disney Ins. Cannot say I know too much about it except that the U.S plans are fine tuned for US residents and often-again-loopholes for us Canadians. As long as you ask specifically and hope they know the answers (Disney don't always) and read the fine print, it should be able to work for us.

I know with Cruise Line Ins. it is NOT preferable to purchase for the above reasons.

Our coverage is through Mosiac as well. All the info is on their website and you can add the insurance online.

It also covers auto rental insurance and it covers all dependants. Plus you get air miles.

I had a second to briefly read up on the BMO website.

Question for those who use the Mosiac coverage..have you ever used it for medical care while in the USA..was it easy-did they direct bill to the plan? Just wondering how that works.

I have only ever needed medical care once in the USA and had blue cross & it was so easy to use.
