We will be in DL in 16 days and I haven’t received our tickets or anything. I emailed customer service and they said they are no longer mailing travel documents that I have to get them at front desk when we check in. Is this true? I guess I have to wait to set up Max Pass when we arrive then?

Yes I can also confirm this is true. The CM checking you in at the hotel will have your package of documents for you. In the old days, when they used to mail them to you, I would actually request that they just hold them for me at the hotel instead. For me it is just much more convenient (no need to be home to sign for receipt of the documents package, etc).

When I originally booked our August 2018 DL trip last fall, the CM told me to expect our documents in the mail. A month or so later, I received an email from Disney indicating that their protocol had changed and that our documents and tickets will be waiting for us when we check in. So, the CM you talked to is correct.

I wonder why that is? I just booked a WDW trip and they're mailing our documents ahead of time. Why would DL be any different?

@StormyCA I'm not sure, but I'm wondering if it's because at WDW, magic bands are involved? I have no idea...just a guess? For all of our WDW trips, we've always had our documents and magic bands shipped to us a few weeks before we leave for our trips.

There’s no real reason to mail ahead with no magic bands or making FastPasees ahead of time. Less cost to mail and less chance of it getting lost.

They'll be at your hotel. No need to set up anything for Max Pass. Just scan your tickets into the app and buy MP each morning after your tickets are scanned into the park. Super easy.

I don't know either, but don't think so. I was concerned about getting the documents/MBs before we leave as we're RVing to FLA from CA and leave a week or so before check in and mentioned it to the CM. He said when we get the email to customize our MBs we can arrange for them to be sent directly to Ft Wilderness and pick them up there rather than our home if we're concerned we won't get them in time before we leave. So WDW could start sending travel packets to the hotels if they wanted to.

Maybe it's to do with the online check in and MBs being your room key? We've only stayed at the Fort, but don't they activate your MB-as-room-key remotely, text you your room number, and then you don't have to stop at the front desk at all?

Can I buy the MP from within the app?

Yes, that's how you buy it. As soon as your tickets are scanned into the park, you'll have the option to buy max pass and you can even choose what tickets you want to buy it for. You'll want to memorize the 3 digit code on back of your credit card because you have to enter that each day. It's so easy to purchase and have your first MP booked before you're even fully into the park.

I assume that documents are waiting at the hotel because it saves money. WD Travel can just deliver them to the hotel the day before check in vs. having to pay for delivery and then I always had to sign for them so it was take a day off work or have them delivered to work and take the chance they get misplaced in the school office...

and alerts the guests that all rides and dining must be booked no later than 7 years prior to arrival. :D

Sure feels that way!!!

They *can* do that. They don’t always do that. I’ve never gotten a room ready text without checking in at the front desk (even if I’ve done online checkin).

Thebonly disney package we ever did was Disneyland. I got everything ahead of time. Panicked for weeks that I’d forget things. Hit the road for our long drive down. Had to stop at radio shack because our son broke the seat back DVD player inside of 15 minutes of leaving WA. Didn’t have an alarm on the car so I brought everything in with me. Got 10 minutes down the highway after buying whatever we needed.

When I realized I’d left the tickets at radio shack.

We drove back, I nearly rolled out of the car, ran to the store...and the packet was sitting there on the counter. Whew.

Anything that will prevent that sort of thing from happening, I’m in favor of.

I don’t mind them keeping the tickets at the desk. That is great, I would panic about forgetting them:)
I do wish they would still send the luggage tags ahead of time.
