TRAVEL DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS for Canadian Disney Cruisers (And Non-Cruisers)

I have just printed off passport forms from the Cdn govt website. Children's passports cost only $37. I think, although it's more work, I am going to get some for the kids since I am already going through the process of renewing mine anyway. Better safe than sorry I guess -

Kind of an off topic question-have any Canadian cruisers not gotten their cruise documents in time?

HI ALL,
YOU MAY REMEMBER ME IN MY PANIC 2 WEEKS AGO WITH THE SAME DILEMA. WHEN MY DOCS ARRIVED THERE WAS A BRIGHT ORANGE PAPER FROM DCL RE: DOC OF CITIZENSHIP REQ'D. IT STATED ONE OF THE FOLLOWING IS REQ'D: A VALID PASSPORT, STATE OR PROVINCE ISSUED BIRTH CERTIFICATE, THE ORIGINAL ONLY AND NO HOSPITAL ISSUED ONES WILL BE ACCEPTED, OR A NATURALIZATION CERTIFICATE.
WE CALLED DCL TO BE SURE PRIOR TO DOCS ARRIVING, AND FOR THE 3 DAY WONDER CRUISE, A PASSPORT IS NOT REQ'D, VISITING BAHAMAS AND CC. IF YOU WERE GOING TO OTHER NON-US ISLANDS THEN YES. TO BE SAFE FOR THE NEXT TRIP, WE'RE GETTING OUR PASSPORTS WHEN WE RETURN.

We've been on two 7 day cruises and the bright orange slip of paper with our documents indicated a passport was required but we went to other countries other than The Bahamas.

Mom-Rules - both times that we cruised we got our documents about 2 weeks before the cruise.

Thanks for the reassurance-I guess I shouldn't panic quite yet.

I sent an e-mail to DCL regarding travel documents and this was the reply!

Dear Chris,

Thank you for your diligence regarding your travel document requirements
for the Caribbean. For sailings prior to December 29, 2007, proof of
Canadian citizenship includes one of the following:

*Valid, original, unexpired Canadian Passport

*Original Birth Certificate and a photo ID issued by a Local, or
Provincial Government agency. Photo ID is only required for Guests 18
and older.

*If you live and work in the U.S. and are a legal permanent resident a
Valid, unexpired, Permanent Resident Card, also known as the "Green
Card" or "Alien Resident Card (ARC)" must be provided.

For air travel, however, the deadline is January 23, 2007. This means
that all travelers, including U.S. Citizens and all foreign nationals,
traveling to the United States by air on or after January 23, 2007, such
as Guests flying to Orlando, Florida from Canada, are still required to
carry a valid passport after the effective date.

I hope this information has been helpful. If you require further
assistance in planning your visit, please feel free to contact us.

We look forward to sailing with you! Have a Magical Day!

Hello,
I recently read a post from someone who cruised this fall/winter, and they indicated that they did not need to turn in their passport (they simply scanned it upon check-in). Does that mean you don't have to get up for 6 am on the last day (since you don't have to pick up the passports), or does that meeting still happen for other reasons?
Thanks!
:)

Yes...that's right...we cruised last March, and the policy has changed...they simply scan your passport at check-in and hand it right back to you...no more 5:30a.m wake-up calls on last morning...yayyyy!!

kjd469, you have no idea how much you have just made my morning! I am not a morning person at the best of times - definitely not a morning person when I am on vacation! Our kids sleep until 8 most mornings - waking them up at that hour and then only arriving back home at about 2 am later that night (after flying back/driving home) would NOT have been pretty! :crazy2:
Thanks again!
:)

Don't we need passports to be able to clear customs and fly to the US? I thought driving there we are fine to cross the border with gov't photo id and proof of citizenship. I find having a passport is just easier whichever way we go.

Yes you need a passport to fly to the US.

This thread is old, maybe a moderator can remove it as I think some of the information is wrong now.
