Travel consent letter

They are both acceptable. My dad is a Commissioner of Oaths and has notarized many travel consent letters.

Another thing that should be mentioned here about travel consent, and your destination: Each Country has their own requirements for entry. It's best to check the destination Country's requirements before you go, and could explain why the long form birth certificate was requested.

I think it is probably because the actual names of the parents is on the long form of the birth certificates. I always take a copy of the long form when travelling.

I honestly have never taken my ex with me, I have sole custody so I don't need him to come with me for anything.

In owen sound you can get Commissioning of Oaths at service Ontario to sign the letter free of charge and it will be as sound as a lawyer notarized. The address is Unit 2, 1400 First Avenue West
Owen Sound, ON N4K 6Z9
General Inquiry: 1-800-267-8097

This is what I have used when my daughter has travel with her grandmother to England and her dad to the states.

Hey there, I grew up in Owen Sound. I moved when I was 27.

Anyway, you will want to get your travel authorization notarized. I live in Nova Scotia and some law firms (I don't know about all of them) will notarize documents either for free or for a small fee.

It is way better to be safe than sorry. I know someone previously said they have never had their letter notarzied, but do you really want to risk it and not be allowed to travel. I would not want to be the one to tell a kid at the airport the weren't going to Disney!

I will be doing up the travel authorization for my ex to sign soon. Hopefully, my TA will have our trip booked on Monday when the fd for gp comes out.

I have taken my child with and without a notarized letter. Still have never been asked for it.

My last trip, for various reasons, I decided it would be best to have it notarized. I contacted Service Ontario, by email. They told me that if I was travelling outside of Canada I should have the letter notarized. That they had a commisioner of oaths, but I needed a notary :confused3.

Had a letter drawn up by lawyer and again, was never asked. Frustrated that there is no consistency at the border and with information regarding the issue. They need to make it standard or not. One way or the other.

All children who need a travel abroad passport.Supporting valid Canadian identification can also include.Foreign officials and transportation companies are vigilant concerning documentation for children crossing international borders.

When DD and I flew to Disneyland in September without DH all I did was make a color copy of his passport (showing his signature, picture and information) and then on the back of the page wrote out:

I, Full Name of Parent NOT Going, agree to my wife, Full Name of Parent Going, taking our daughter, Full Name of Child, to the United States on Date Leaving to Date Returning.

We never had any problems with this. We never got anything notarized. Going through customs on the way down they did look at the consent letter, but not on the way back. Customs also questioned DD on who I was, and if she knew who was also with us(Grandma) and where was Daddy and what was his name.

Hope this helps.

I have crossed 3 times in my car and had a letter each time. I get them sworn at city hall in London. My ex is the one swearing the oath. I write the letter and they retype it on city stationary then they stamp it with the seal. It costs about $30 and it is money well spent. I have never been asked for it but I always hand it to them.

We travel to the US all the time by car. I also photocopy DH passpost and he writes a letter (we are happily married but the kids and I travel a lot). However he is meeting us at Disney this summer so will get the letter witnessed by lawyer. I would never take the chance with ruining such an expensive holiday. Good luck:thumbsup2
