Do you take cash or take travellers checks with you? Do you have a hard time cashing them in the parks? I went and picked up some money today.. the rate is sooo good!!.. but I am not sure if the next amount of money I should get checks instead of carrying cash?.. thanks.. Sarah :earsboy:

We do minimal cash and mostly TC's we don't like the thought of carrying a large ammount of cash and we seldom use our CC's or debit cards while away at Disney. TC's have more security to them and thus more piece of mind. We have never had any problems using TC's at the parks or anyplace for that fact while in Florida other than at one gas station out near Cocoa Beach.

We have always use TCs - never really had any problems. Its very safe too! :sunny:

We carry cash just for gas and food for our drive down. The rest is in TC, we have never had a problem cashing them.

TC's for us too....never had any problems using them anywhere at WDW and area.

Us to ! We had no problem cashing them on the resorts! We actually had more trouble from the Best western we stayed at in Clearwater than we ever did in WDW. (The problem was they'd only cash $40 at a time.)

TC's ... and we've never had a problem, even at the counter service places. I usually get them in $50 denominations.

I was told by the owner of a DVC that you can put money on your room key and it is like a credit card. I am going to do this but take travel checks with us till we get there and then put them on room key.
I hope this works.

You can easily cash TC anywhere on Disney property when you are purchasing something. You can also cash up to $200 per day at guest services at your hotel to have cash for other things.

I normally use Travellers Cheques when going to US. We did last time and didn't have any problems.

This past summer we spent a week at Sherkston's Beach in Ft. Erie. We were close to Falls, Marineland and Buffalo. I took cash but also took TC in Cdn Funds. I didn't want to have a whole wad of cash in my purse and thought this would be easier. I mean, I'm Canadian, the TC's are in Canadian Funds and I was in Canada. No Problem Right! Wrong - - - I had nothing but trouble trying to cash Canadian TC's in Canada. Everywhere I went I was told "we don't accept" or "I'm not sure let me check with the Manager". I even had one woman hold it up to the light after I signed it like they do with the paper bills. My husband was PO'd with me. Couldn't understand why I didn't bring cash and why we had so much trouble with TC's.

Well I recently saw a commercial from American Express where you can apply for an American Express TC Card. You use it like a debit card but it is not connected to your bank account you simply load your funds onto the card before using it. Then you sign receipt like a credit card but once your loaded funds are gone the card will not let you use again until more money is loaded onto it.

Sounds like a better idea then Travellers Cheques. I think I might even get one for Xmas. I will load a bit on each week up to December and then use as my spending money for Xmas Shopping.

If I'm not mistaken you can continue to use again and again. It's like a credit card but without the credit. You need to load with $$$ before using.

It seems that you always have problems with TC unless you are in a major tourist area. I-75 is a major tourist area as well as Disney and all the outlet malls. It's not a problem to use them at WDW. I've never used them here because we use our credit cards to get free cars and groceries!!!!
