Travel Channel Fans Guide

My boys have both been on Dinosaur. The older one rode it for the first time when he was 4 and loved it, the younger one rode it for the first time when he was almost 4 and he hated it. I think it just depends on the child. But I would assume most 5 year olds would really like it... as long as they aren't the type that get scared easily. :)

Maybe we should get a bunch of DISers to email and request they air the HDTV version!!! :)

viewer_relations@discovery.com

That's the email address I use to find out when the show will air again. So maybe if enough people write in they'll show it!! It's got quite a few scenes the other version doesn't have. At least 15 minutes longer or more. :)

Dave, he rode spiderman at US/IOA, and LOVED it......... would you say it's similar, as far as "intensity"? Thanks!!

Now to me, I think Spiderman is much more intense. But the rides are definitely similar. I say let him ride. The worst thing that can happen is he doesn't like it and he doesn't ride it again. ;)

Dave, I think we got the same version as the HDTV but without the HDTV quality of picture. So if they air it someday (and hopefully they will) it will be even better than what we have on tape. :)

Intensity is in the mind of those experiencing! Spiderman is intense, Dinosaur is intense. I've seen kids come out of both rides having experienced total joy and total terror. Dinosaur is very dark in places - and uses the dark to sneak up on you. Spiderman uses 3-D images, smoke, and light to make it intense. So..., if your kids are not afraid of the dark, and they are willing to ride, go for it.

I think Erika's idea is a good one! Click on her link to get the "Fans Guide to Walt Disney World" to show on Discovery HD! Then post here to let us know you made that request! Thanks! :earsboy:

I have gone ahead and sent Discovery a note to request it on Discovery HD. We do not get the Travel Channel in my area, so I have missed all of these great Disney shows. :sad1:

You know, I don't understand why they don't put Disney shows on HDTV??? I know the producer of our show said that any Disney related show they make is always a hit. It seems like DiscoveryHD would pick up on that popularity? :confused3 Heck, even if I wasn't on the show I'd still want to see the hdtv version. :rotfl: What could be better than that??? :teeth:

Besides our show I wonder if they made hdtv versions of any others?

Or an even better idea... how about a WDW-hdtv channel that stays on 24/7?? :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Great idea! The way TV Channels are so specialized today a Theme/Amusement Park Channel would probably make a pretty good go of it.

Woot woot for that!

Speaking of which - remember the "good ole days" when Disney Inside Out was on the Disney Channel every week? It went through three or more incarnations, but I was so into that show. I still have a bunch of those shows on Video tape - someday I want to put them on a DVD.

As for the HD shows, I know that the producer of our show said that the last two Disney programs that Lightship produced have been shot in HD. So there are a few already (look for the letter-box shows on the Travel Channel - those are the HD shows). Someday there should be enough material to do a whole evening on Discover HD I'd think.

Send in those requests!

I just wrote in requesting that they show it on the HD channel. Just got my HD tivo yesterday, so i have to re-tivo all my old shows, and now the new ones in HD. My other tivo has them, but i need them all in this one now!! Cant wait to tivo anything disney in HD!!

Now, you're talking! And it would save me a lot of money too, b/c I could cancel all of my other channels, since I would only be watching the WDW-HDTV channel. ;)

I guess I would have to keep one premium channel, since they are the ones who sign my paycheck. Besides, I need my Rome, Entourage and Sopranos.

Ericka........... I'm with you, WDW 24/7!!!!!!!!

Seriously though, it really is a good idea............ an All Theme Park / Travel Planning Channel............ perhaps the powers that be should think about that?? :earboy2:

Dave, I'm pretty sure Jamie said they shot the Christmas parade in HD. So there's another show for the list. I wonder if it ever made it to DiscoveryHD?

I remember watching that and seeing the letter box - I have not seen it on Discovery HD, but I wonder if it was on only on Christmas day?

OH, I do have one question, if I can post it here...... I don't mean to hijack the thread, but can you tell me if Dinosaur is really scary......... DS is 5, and he 's convinced he's riding it.......... but mom's not so sure!!!!!! :earboy2:

Yes, the Dinosaur is one of the most intense rides at Disney. I mean, you're chased in the dark by freakin’ Dinosaurs! Our kids rode it when it opened, but later our daughter (who is fearless) of 6 chose to ride, and lived to tell the tale. It all depends on your kid’s constitution. The climax is still terrifying.

First off, I have to say I LOVE this Disney special!! :lovestruc I think I've caught it each time it's been on. :cool1:

The first time we took our kids on Dinosaur (when it was still Countdown to Extinction), they were 9, 8 and 5. We bought the photo of the ride which is hysterical to see...my DH and 8 yr old dd in the back REALLY getting into the ride (pointing and wide open mouth screams ;) ), my 9 yr old son with his back turned and his hoodie pulled up over his face and my 5 yr old DD literally laying on my lap to hide! :teeth: As we entered the last portion of the ride and the car 'shot' forward, we stopped dead! The room was completely black!! :earseek: No one in the car knew what was supposed to happen and we sat there for about 10 minutes!! :scared1: It was hard to reassure the kids when they kept asking what was going to happen. I had no clue and I think the fear of the unknown was far worse than the actual scene when they went back in a second time. They really were disappointed when Disney tamed the ride down.

Now don't get me started on thier first experience on AE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :earseek: The girls STILL talk about how horrible that ride was! ;)

I loved the old Countdown to Extinction!! :goodvibes It was much more of a thrill ride. We were actually at AK the week it opened... I think the Safari was better back then too. It seemed like they kept more animals out, especially giraffes.

OH, I can hardly wait.......... DH is so excited about AK....... and thanks to Dave, is wanting to stay at AKL......... :confused3 LOL

We are looking forward to the safari.......... I told DH he'd have to ride Dinosaur first, and then decide if we think DS can ride it............ he insist he's going too......... he saw it on the show, and now is soooo into it!!!! He talks about it non-stop!!!
