My family and I are staying at AoA. We hope to have reservations for breakfast at both the Contemporary and the Poly during our stay. I understand that we can use the parks as transfer points but I'm curious if there's a way I can figure out the time that it'll take us to get that far. I don't want to over estimate the transit time and arrive super early for our meal. And of course I don't want to under estimate and miss it.

You'l transfer at MK. Generally speaking, you should be at the bus stop 75 to 90 minutes before your ADR, but it does depend on what time your ADR is for.

Since both the Contemporary and Poly are on the MK monorail line you would take a bus to the Mk and grab the resort monorail (not the express line) to the hotels. For the Contemporary you might even be better off walking from the MK bust stop, instead of going to the left towards MK,take the Contemporary walking path over,5-10 minute walk after you get off the bus.

I have found this route calculator to be fairly accurate and if anything it allows more time than necessary. It has helped me of past trips to gauge times between resort - park - resort for ADRs. :thumbsup2

Be very careful with this. It's mostly accurate, but sometimes gives routes that don't actually exist. If you're the person that's sitting at the TTC waiting for a bus to WL that doesn't exist, the OLP transportation wiz can ruin your night. I never recommend it anymore.

By far the easiest thing is to add $20 to the character breakfast budget for a taxi. One will pick you up at Pop and ten to fifteen minutes later, drop you off at the MK resort of your choice. Its far easier to estimate, since you don't need to factor in a possible 30 minute wait for the bus to the MK, plus the wait for the monorail, plus the time it takes you to get from the bus stop to the monorail.

(You can walk to the CR from the mk monorail stop - its actually kind of a hike, but its doable. You do need to take the launch or the monorail to the Poly.)

Time from getting to the bus (or monorail or boat) platform at the origin to stepping off the bus (or monorail or boat) at the destination is highly variable. They do give 80 minutes as a reasonable worst case. The answer to your question is something like "typically between 30 and 70 minutes". Allow 10 more minutes to go inside and check in with the maitre d'.

It's only slightly longer, walking distance wise, getting off the Art of Animation bus at Magic Kingdom and walking to the Contemporary Resort compared with walking from the bus stop to the MK monorail stop (walking away from the CR) and taking the monorail the one stop to the CR.

A bit of advice....leave more time than you think you need. I know what I'm doing at WDW. I would hazard to say that there are few people that know their way around the transportation system better than I do. BUT..having said that...I was at AoA, with my dd, waiting for a MK bus so we could get to dinner at 1900 Park Fare. I left a good 70 mins. that accounted for a 20 min wait for the bus to get to AoA, then a 15 min ride to MK, and then either a 10-15 min wait for the boat, and then the 10 min ride to GF, or a 5 min wait for the monorail and a 25 min ride to GF. Well......I was about 20 mins later for my ADR. It took forever for the bus to come..over 30 mins. Then, the driver was ridiculously slow...I mean, seriously slow....30 mph on the highway to MK!! The boat was just leaving as I got there, but figured another would be along shortly. It was very slow coming in from the Polynesian. All in all....20 mins late.

Same thing for my last day breakfast at 'Ohana!!! Buses were ridiculously slow....again, almost 30 mins late for my ADR!!!

Leave at least 90 mins to get someplace using a park as a transfer spot. Or just budget in cab fares!!!!

Thanks everyone! Now that I see how much time I should leave to get there I'm thinking that maybe we'll limit our restaurant choices to being within the parks and downtown. Plus, we'll have 2 girls (6.5 and almost 4) with us and I think that time would be better spent in the parks.
