Travel bags for carseats

I asked this question over on the transportation board and thought maybe someone here would have some suggestions.

Has anyone used the travel bags for your car seats?

We'll have two Britax with us and last time lugging them through the airport was a pain. Along with a double stroller and two kids. I'm thinking maybe checking the stoller with baggage, but how to keep it safe. It wasn't cheap!

We will be using them on the plane as well as our rental car. I have seen the bags that you put them in and have a strap for carrying over the shoulder. But if we're going to have to take them out to go through security, is it worth having the bag???

Have you looked into Go Go Kidz? They make roller attachments for Britaxes. I don't have one but they look slick and seem like they might be the ticket for you.

Oh wow, it looks like they revised the design and now it fits many makes and models of seats and not just Britax. :thumbsup2

Here's the link: GoGo Kidz

As for checking a stroller as baggage. I checked a Mac once - I wrapped it in a quilt and put it in a Mac carrying bag. No problems whatsoever. The bag also had plenty of room for me to stash extra stuff in it, so the stroller was plenty padded.

ETA: I guess I didn't address your original question - we've always just carried DS's carseat. We bought a Graco ComfortSport for travel since it is pretty light and we travel pretty frequently. I just clip the top tether to somewhere down below on the seat and sling it over my shoulder. For the price of the GoGo Kidz maybe you'd be better off just picking up a couple of less expensive seats that are light weight.

Just to add another thought (mostly OT from your question) I'm looking at the Sunshine Kids Radian as our next seat to use for travel when DS outgrows the Graco. It folds and harnesses to 65 lbs and is FAA approved. It has a steel frame so it is heavy, but again it folds and there is an available bag that has backpack straps.

I love the carseat bags, and wouldn't go without it! We didn't have to take the carseat out through security. We just put it on the xray conveyer with the rest of our carryons. Last trip, we checked 1 carseat in its carrier, and carried the other one onboard in the carrier. The checked piece did get opened and searched. We only knew because of the inserted postcard explaining this.

We also have a Britax, which is heavier than some other carseats, and I was able to carry this over my shoulder during the hectic moments when my husband was doing other things (like curbing the luggage or carrying everything to the rental car). I would never have been able to push the stroller/carry the diaper bag/carry a carseat without the carrier. I would recommend it.

As a bonus, you can fit extra souvenirs in it on the trip back! We stashed about 6 beach towels one year.

That bag is priceless! Get one. Its probably my most appreciated bit of baby gear we ever owned. Get one. Whatever the cost.

Now if youre going to be pickey, look for one that also has a handle at the top on the back. This way you can get it down the isle of the plane easier (holding it over your sholder like drycleaning).

We always used a carseat bag and were never was asked to take anything out for xray it just went through like all the other bags, unopened.

My sil just got a great one with wheels like rolling luggage and she loves it!

I bought mine at Right Start and let me tell you, it was a lifesaver. It has hidden straps that convert the beast into a backpack. With all the luggage we had the car seat would have taken up too much room on the luggage cart in the airport. I wore the bag on my back. Can't say enough good things about it. I actually had my 1 year-old's regular carseat and older daughter's booster in it.
