Travel Agent's Discount?

Curious question...do other timeshares offer a discount to TAs to purchase?

Is the CM discount just for WDW CM's??? Should I be applying for a job at my Disney store???

When Disney owned the Disney Store - those CMs were eligible for the CM discount. The chain is now owned by Children's Place with no employment relationship with Disney - thus no Disney related discounts any longer.

Disney CMs at all Theme Parks, ABC, ESPN, etc are all included in the discount though.

Just out of curiosity, what benefit could there be to Disney to offer a discount to travel agents? For hotel rooms, if a travel agent is familiar with the property, he or she can then recommend it to clients and the hotel benefits from it.

If a travel agent buys DVC, he or she cannot sell it to a customer and is not likely to recommend it to the customer since it will take away business!

I doubt Disney will offer any discounts unless there is some future benefit in it for them. ;)

I agree with Disneyholic, hence back to my question...Do other timeshares have TA discounts for purchase...and if so, what is the advantage to the timeshare?

Does anyone know if that includes ABC affiliates in local markets.
If I were to get a job at KATU (our local ABC station) as a receptionist would that count?

Just for the record, we travel agents can book DVC properties just like a hotel. Disney pays commission on them the same way and at the same rate they do for their hotels, so to say recommending them to a client would take away business isn't really accurate.

I think everyone knows that DVC resorts can be booked like a hotel on cash, both through Disney and through Travel Agents...but the question was whether Travel Agents get a discount when buying into the timeshare...and my question was whether it is the "norm" for Travel Agents to receive discounts when purchasing a timeshare.

1) You can get a discount when you pay cash at DVC.
2) Thus, you can recommend it to people to pay cash.
3) But, as mentioned, there is NO advantage to give TA's a buy-discount.

I don't think affiliates are ABC employees.
Unless it has changed in the past year and a half, ABC affliates do qualify as Disney employees. I was a manager at the Disney Store for several years and our local ABC station (they were owned by Disney) was entitled to the same discounts and benefits as any other Disney cast member.

It may depend on who owns the affiliate station in that city. ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox all have many affiliates around the country. The networks do own some of the stations called O &O's for Owned and Operated. But many others are owned by various broadcasting and media companies who then affiliate themselves with one of the networks. I would imagine that those employess at ABC O & O's would be considered ABC employees but merely working for an ABC affiliate would not necessarily make you an ABC employee.

I've never heard of it but then again most timeshare don't give any group discounts other than direct employees and at times, those who are already members.

There is a difference between an affiliate station and an "O & O" (Owned & Operated) station. I believe the networks are allowed to have a limited number (5 maybe?) of O & O stations and they are usually in the largest markets (NYC, Chicago, LA etc.). The affiliates are owned by other companies and just purchase the rights to the network's programming, and therefore probably are not eligible for Disney discounts.

I live in mid Michigan and the local ABC station is owned by Disney. This is not a large metro market. Their employees were and still are Disney employees. I dealt with them on a regular basis at the Disney Store when it to was owned by Disney. They received the same discount and benefits as did all Disney employees. So I guess one would have to contact their local ABC station to find out if they are owned by Disney Corp.
