I usually book everything myself but I've seen a number of posts that you can get on board credits by booking through a travel agent. Is it worth it even as a Canadian? Do you use an agent here or one in the US? Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks,

Normally I book myself as well - I like being in control of my reservations. For our 2016 DCL cruise we booked with Eileen at Dreams Unlimited - she's been great (applied a pin code we got after our 1st cruise, got us the staterooms we requested and has responded in a timely manner even on week-ends).

The on board credit helps with the atrocious exchange rate. We'll use our credit towards gratuities.

We booked our upcoming cruise ourselves through Itravel2000 but did not get any onboard credits. If we cruise again I might use a travel agent just so I can get some credits ;-) A friend of mine (who cruises a lot) always uses a travel agent so she gets on board credits.

I think we get $200 from our travel agent, and the same from our onboard re-booking. Covers our tips!

We use an online agent, Caylie McCann at Small World Vacations. She's done 4 cruises for us and a huge land-sea package for my parents!

We use Michele from Dream Unlimited travel. Never had a problem, super great service for the last 7 vacations we have booked through dreams.

I've used Dana at Mousketrips for 2 DCL cruises now...and wouldn't hesitate to use her again. She is a great resource, and I know she loves Disney as much as I do. She's prompt and quick on email replies. And just plain wonderful - even with my pesky questions!

I book several Disney trips for myself and friends each year but when it comes to cruising I always use a travel agent. Have been very happy doing so, especially as they are so knowledgeable. Most TAs also provide an onboard credit which is an added bonus. We even had gifts in our staterooms last week from our TAs!

We have always used Small World Vacations. For a 7 day cruise for 4 people our on board credit is $350, which is awesome. We have used this TA for a few cruises and they always leave us a gift in our stateroom for being a return customer. :)

Are you allowed to recommend travel agents here?

I have done a combination of book myself and use agents. Until recently I've used Canadian agents and OBC is minimal.

I've now started using a US online agent. For our next cruise (with Celebrity) got $300 in OBC from Celebrity (part of their 123 promo) and got another $300 from the US travel agent. Not sure what I'm going to do with all that OBC : )

It doesn't hurt to get pricing. Call a Canadian Agent and see what they offer you, and then get a price from a US agent.
