Travel agent commissions and Milton

Apologies as I could not figure out which forum to post this question in.

With so many people having had to cancel their Disney trips due to Milton and get refunded by Disney, do the travel agency who booked their trips still get commissions? I’m sure they’ve done so much work and potentially don’t get anything in return due to the storm. I am hoping that maybe Disney has some sort of insurance that they could pull from to make sure that agents get compensated.

Unfortunately, no, travel agents do not get commissions on any trips they booked that were canceled due to Milton. In very rare instances, commissions are protected when a client has insurance and cancels - but that is mostly with cruise lines and not Disney.

Bummer. Well I hope at least the TA’s whose clients bought the Disney insurance are covered.

They aren't. TAs may make a commission on the insurance add-on purchase price, but not on any canceled WDW package. They would also make a commission if it is just an outright, non-refundable ticket sale that wasn't attached to a package. Most TAs, most likely, encouraged clients affected by Milton to reschedule their trips to try to protect their commissions and get paid for all of their work. As PP noted, if it were a cruise, it would be different as the cancellation terms and conditions are very different when comparing, say DCL vs. WDW.
