Trapped here at WDW

Well, it's not the travelers fault that the park is closed either and YES those that paid for UPH's should get compensated for the missed days due to park closures.

And in the past, as others have posted, Disney has given out park hoppers good forever. It's the luck of the draw when you go during hurricane season. We didn't get away expense free, when we had to cancel, and I don't expect Disney to make up the difference. It's a sad time for all concerned, but I just don't see how anyone can complain about having to stay in your room for your own safety, or blame Disney. What would the alternatives be? Open the park and so what if flying debirs injures anyone?

You're losing vacation time, Disney is losing money, CM's and members of their families may lose jobs, and Floridians are losing homes. You just have to make the best out of a bad situation..at least you can feel some safeness, as Disney tries their best to keep you that way. Some are down there trapped in rooms with several kids, others need to get home to jobs...I'm sure all are disappointed, but sometimes we can't control what happens.

why some of you insist on acting like knuckleheads
I'm not sure why you are name calling. I'm not a knucklehead and i have nothing to be ashamed of. However when someone posts how the OP did, she has to expect others to comment.
I don't drink coffee, and even if I did, that isn't what would be on my mind. My niece and nephew and many friends who live in Florida, and their lives and homes..that's what I would be contemplating. Sitting here waiting for the phone calls (we aren't able to get through to them), and hope and pray all is well.

DMRick,
All the OP asked was if they would get money back for the day the park was closed. A very valid question IMO. They are asking it on a Disney board. I think your response to them was very rude.

didnt feel i was name calling, was looking for a little understanding and compassion for OP. guess i looked in the wrong place

We just left Disney last night...last flight out of MCO before it closed (departure time moved by half an hour due to Jeanne). We were terrified of being there during Jeanne...not because of the hurricane conditions, but because of being stuck in a room for another night with a toddler who has been fighting sleep our whole trip! Anyway, there were many Floridians in the hotel trying to keep safe. I heard from some who lost their jobs because their homes were destroyed in the last hurricane and they were not considered "homeless" (gotta love corporate America).

I just hope everyone stays safe. There are many worse places to be stuck in a hurricane...I wouldn't have minded if we didn't have TODDLER!

The worse should be over soon!

Amy

Well, here we are at POR-FQ and it looks like the parks are all going to be closed tommorow. That sucks, and we *may* be trapped in our rooms for up to 30 hours.

Well I paid for the parks for all the time im here, and I dont get access on one day. Will disney refund for that day? or am I just out of luck? This is kinda runining my disney glow,QUOTE]

The question was a good question. The part that made me sit up and take notice, was the part where she said she paid for the parks and they are going to be closed. It was ruining her Disney glow, and she may be trapped in her room
.
As someone who had their trip cancelled for the last hurricane, I have plenty of compassion. We too missed many plans and had expenses that won't be refunded..one of our "lost
expense" was 2 free tickets on Southwest..this trip would have given us those. We had another vacation planned where those tickets would have come in good. If you go back and look at my emails about missing that vacation, you'll see those weren't mentioned (excpet to Lewis in a private PM). It seemed a small price to pay in comparison to what all the others who lived there were losing. But it's the price I paid for booking during hurrican eseason. So yes, if it's compassion you guys want me to give her, for having this happen on her vacation, then it's compassion for that part, I'll be happy to give.

It's interesting, that I'm the rude one, but the person who called names (knucklyhead isn't a name?), wasn't really calling names.
Perhaps you could have asked for compassion without name calling. I didn't call the OP any names. We all read things differently, in email without being able to see faces and hear tones. I read that she paid and now was stuck in her room. Her concern was if she was stuck without compensation. If that was all she posted , I would have answered differently. I didn't read any compassion for the cm's or others who live in Florida in the OP's post.

Momamy3 I am so jealous you got out! We started trying Friday night but Delta had cancelled almost all Saturday flights.

I keep rereading the OP's post and I don't know why everyone is so mad at her. Asking about the tickets is a legimate question, especially on this board. I didn't read where she ever implied her problems are worse than that of someone who stands to lose their home. I didn't see where she was complaining, she merely said "it sucked" which, as someone who is also confined to their room due to the storm, I second that sentiment. Of course there is no alternative so we're all making the best of it.

I agree, cnids00, Disney takes great care of the guests. The CMs at the Poly are amazing.

In any case, as the eye starts over you as I type, stay safe. Here's hoping yoru vacation time ends on a happier note.
Safetymom..check in when you can.

My family lost more than 500 dollars when we had to reschedule our trip because of the Ivan threat (when the tracks took it up straight through FL). Could we afford it? Not really! But we didn't come here whining about it because people were losing their lives and homes at the time. I choose to give my compassion to those who truly deserve it, the residents!

I understand that people in the hotels are scared. But unless they were living in solitary confinement for the past week or so, they knew that the storms were out there and had potential to effect WDW and they chose to travel anyway. That is the chance you take when you do that.

There is a difference IMO between saying "man, my vacation got cut short/off/cancelled/ and it stinks" than some of the whining being done on these boards.

It's amazing how those asking for compassion for vacationers are so quick to judge those of us more concerned about the lives and safety of the residents, not knowing who of us have family there, or have family who have lost so much of their homes in one of the last few storms. Or that many of us also took a huge finantial dunking when our vacations had to be rescheduled because of this unprecedented event of four hurricanes effecting FL within six weeks. This has simply never happened to FL before, so many strong storms in one year.

Before you call someone a 'knucklehead' you should consider how it'll sound. It doesn't help your arguement!

I still can't believe the way that grown adults can act in situations like this. Things happen in life that are disappointing. Saying it stinks is one thing, wanting Disney to compensate you for an act of God or nature is a bit over the top IMO.

Turning on fellow Dis posters because you think we lack sufficient compassion only serves to make the situation worse. Express your own compassion to the OP if you like and then leave those of us with a more realistic view to express that as well. We're entitled.

I wanted to add that if I thought that the OP was in any real danger you can bet I would be expressing all kinds of concern for her situation. The mayor of Orlando was just on by phone with CNN and said that he thinks that they did better than expected even though some of the wind and rain is still moving through.

I am concerned of course with the safety of everyone in Orlando, guests at WDW included. Stay inside and stay safe!

DMRick and RoLaren - I am in complete agreement with you and do not consider myself a 'knucklehead'. It is not inappropriate to inquire into the nature of someone's complaint, especially when they seem mroe concerned about their monetary issues than the safety and well-being of Floridians, some of whom do not even have a home to return to and in some cases, employment.
DH and I were actually supposed to head down to WDW in March but an illness prevented us from that trip; we rescheduled for 9/18-9/28 and due to Charley & Frances and the other impending storms, we rescheduled again for January. We did reschedule for two reasons - 1) Floridians may need the hotel rooms we had booked, the food we would be consuming or the gas we were using and 2) we did not want to spend our hard earned $$$ on this very expensive vacation if it would be interrupted by bouts of terrible weather.
With all of this in mind, everyone was aware of the horrible hurricane season that was and continues to haunt Florida and some vacationers decided it was worth the risk - I, for one, do not believe that Disney should reimburse you since you knew the situation (more than 5 weeks ago) prior to your departure.
My apologies if I do sound harsh but DH and I are more concerned about first and foremost, Floridians (some of whom live here and have property there) and their safety and well-being and secondly, the welfare of Florida itself.

Well this has turned ugly in a hurry.

The OP was asking if they would get a refund for the park passes, and it has turned into a "why don't you have compassion for the others who live there" thread.

I'm closing this before it turns any nastier since the OP's question has been answered.
